Clinton Nsiala set for golden Rangers chance as latest blow now confirmed

Clinton Nsiala could be in line to make his first Rangers appearance of the season.

Since joining from AC Milan in 2024, Nsiala has been unable to get going at Rangers, with a mixture of injuries and performance-related issues preventing him from staking a claim for his spot in the starting 11.

The Frenchman has made just 13 senior appearances for the Gers, scoring one and assisting one in the process, but has been unable to make one so far this season.

However, that could be set to change at Ibrox, after the latest blow was confirmed ahead of the festive period.

Nasser Djiga set to miss several Rangers games

Nasser Djiga has been a regular for Rangers this season, desopite looking vulnerable in his first few appearances.

The Wolves loanee has made 22 appearances for the Light Blues this season, and each game has seen him grow into his role further.

However, Rangers have been dealt a blow by the fact that he has been named in the Burkina Faso squad for the upcoming AFCON competition, meaning he will miss several games.

It’s likely that the Gers will be without him for at least four games, potentially starting from 15 December, and with John Souttar currently sidelined, it means that Nsiala is likely next in line to take his place.

Given the lack of gametime the 21-year-old has had of late, it would be a risk, but it’s one that Rohl has very few other options than to take.

Russell Martin had no plans for Nsiala

While very few people will take note of anything Russell Martin had to say at Rangers, his comments on Nsiala certainly make for interesting reading, given the fact that he could now be set for a chance.

Back in July, the former Gers boss said: “I think Clinton’s at a point in his age and his career where he needs to play all the time and every week.

“And he’s trained really, really well. But I think rather than playing some in the squad, a bit like last season, he’s at a point now where he needs to go and play football. It’s the best way to learn. So we’ve had a really good conversation on this.

“I think it was an area we wanted to strengthen anyway, and we will continue to strengthen. So to let him know the situation really early is probably the best for him to find the best opportunity to play football.”

While the comment about Nsiala needing minutes is more than valid, it’s evident that Rangers need depth in that area, and they can count their lucky stars that they never sanctioned an exit for the Frenchman.
