‘Celtic media team to have a word with Wilfried Nancy as he sounds like ex-Rangers boss’

Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy sounded a lot like former Rangers boss Russell Martin after losing to Hearts on Sunday.

The Frenchman’s first game in charge of the Hoops was against Derek McInnes’ team, and he lost 2-1 at Tynecastle Park on 7 December, with the Gers now within six points of their Old Firm rivals after Danny Rohl got the better of Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

With the Ibrox faithful still hoping to win the William Hill Premiership this season, the turmoil at Parkhead will certainly help the Light Blues.

It seems like Celtic have appointed their very own Martin after his comments post the Hearts loss, with the Jam Tarts now three points clear at the top of the table.

Rangers fans to rejoice after Wilfried Nancy admission

Martin lasted just 123 days at the Gers as he refused to take responsibility for the poor results and stuck by his system.

It seems like Nancy is of a similar ilk, with the former Columbus Crew boss having full faith in his style of play, even if it doesn’t work, which will surely be good news for fans at Ibrox.

Celtic risk dropping more points for the rest of the season if the French manager refuses to make changes, just like Martin, and it could then potentially be a two-horse race between Hearts and the Light Blues for the title.

Calum Crowe wrote in the Daily Mail on 8 December: “Listening to Nancy speak on Sunday afternoon after presiding over a 2-1 defeat to Hearts in his first match in charge, he sounded like a man straying dangerously close to Martin territory.”

The journalist added: “‘Listen, I’m not about losing or winning,’ he claimed. ‘I’m about having a good performance.’ Whoa whoa whoa. Hold on just a minute. For any Celtic manager to claim that it’s not about winning or losing, so long as the team plays well, is deeply alarming.

“Perhaps someone in the Celtic media team really ought to have a quiet word in the ear of Monsieur Nancy. There are certain things you just cannot say.”

Russell Martin era at Ibrox revisited

Martin will arguably go down as the worst manager at Ibrox, with a 29 per cent win rate at the Gers.

Rangers got off to their worst league start since 1978 this season, failing to win any of their opening five games in the William Hill Premiership.

The former Southampton boss also left the Light Blues stranded in the Europa League after a historic defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off, with the 9-1 loss on aggregate their joint-worst defeat in Europe.

Martin was lucky to last as long as he did amid fan unrest at Ibrox for several weeks before his sacking, and the Scottish head coach’s tenure still ended up being the shortest of any permanent manager at the Glaswegian outfit.
