Andrew Cavenagh to get to work at Rangers as Manu Fajardo speaks out
Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo may need some convincing to replace Kevin Thelwell at Rangers.
The 40-year-old Spanish chief has done an impressive job at Los Verdiblancos in recent seasons as they continue to remain competitive in LaLiga.
Fajardo is being linked with the sporting director vacancy at Ibrox, with the Gers preparing for the winter transfer window.
Thelwell and Patrick Stewart were sacked at the end of November after multiple fan protests, with their tenures heavily criticised as the Light Blues faced multiple struggles.

Manu Fajardo not thinking about Rangers
Fajardo is focused on his work at Betis as they look to improve their squad in January.
While the Spanish chief appears aware of the Gers’ interest in him, he has chosen to remain coy about the prospect of moving to Ibrox.
Andrew Cavenagh could potentially have to make a push to get the LaLiga outfit’s sporting director before the new year, as he seems content at the Estadio Benito Villamarin for now.
Speaking via Estadio Deportivo on 7 December, Fajardo said: “I work with the same humility and the same commitment. Whether people talk about you, good or bad, it’s always positive. But I’m focused on my club.”
Thelwell arguably left the squad at Ibrox in a worse position than last season, and whoever comes in next will definitely have a massive task on their hands.
Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh Ibrox mutiny
Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have certainly failed to live up to their promises, with the Gers in a bit of a pickle since the American takeover.
Rangers fans expected a new dawn in Govan after multiple years of disappointment under the previous regime, but nothing seems to have changed.
| Players | Transfer fee |
| Youssef Chermiti | £8m |
| Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
The US consortium have already had to admit their mistakes with the appointments of Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell, with the situation in G51 tense.
If the recruitment structure at the Glaswegian outfit isn’t fixed sooner rather than later, there’s arguably no scope for things to turn around, which will likely leave Cavenagh and Marathe in a tough spot.
