Rangers incident could set dangerous precedent as Bobby Madden shares footage

Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande was at the centre of a controversial moment during his side’s win over Kilmarnock.

Bojan Miovski was the hero for Rangers, grabbing two goals as Danny Rohl’s side cruised to a much-needed 3-0 victory.

Mikey Moore came off the bench to score the Gers’ third of the evening, and the 18-year-old was denied a brace of his own after having a delightful chip ruled out for offside.

After Celtic lost to Hearts in Wilfried Nancy’s first game in charge, Rangers are now just six points adrift of their Glasgow rivals in the Scottish Premiership, but Hearts are nine better off.

Mohamed Diomande incident could lead to bigger problem

Diomande was lucky not to give away a penalty against Kilmarnock, after appearing to drag David Watson back.

Watson was making a dart into the Rangers box, and rather than tracking his man, Diomande opted to pull his shirt.

Referee Kevin Clancy and the VAR team opted against penalising the Gers midfielder, despite the Kilmarnock protests.

However, former official Bobby Madden called out the decision on social media, believing that a foul should’ve been given.

In a post on Instagram, Madden posted a clip of the incident, insisting that a bigger problem will be created if referees continue to ignore these types of offences.

He said: “Officials will believe this holding offence has no impact on the game as the attacker has no opportunity to play the ball. The danger in my opinion is that by allowing this you allow similar holding, tripping, pushing offences off the ball and surely you create a bigger problem.

“The defender has switched off, the attacker is going beyond him with the defender knowing he can’t match the run. He isn’t aware of where the ball is going, his only intention is to stop the attacker. That’s a foul.”

Mohamed Diomande continues to struggle for Rangers

Diomande has struggled for Rangers this season, and his discipline has let him down at times as well.

The 24-year-old has been sent off twice in his three Europa League appearances so far, contributing to the Gers’ poor start in the competition.

Rohl will be desperate to see Diomande regain some form over the next few weeks, as he could be crucial for the Glasgow side going forward.

However, if the Ivorian doesn’t address his disciplinary issues with immediate effect then he will find himself out of the Rangers team for good.
