Chris Sutton reacts to Jack Butland controversy as Sky Sports footage replayed on demand after Rangers incident

Chris Sutton has suggested that Jack Butland was lucky to escape a red card in Rangers’ win against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-0 at Rugby Park to continue Danny Rohl‘s unbeaten record in the Scottish Premiership since arriving in Glasgow.

Bojan Miovski stole the headlines for his brace, as it seems like Rohl may have finally got things clicking in the final third.

The Bears were 2-0 up before Kilmarnock striker Bruce Anderson latched onto a dodgy backpass, when Butland rushed out to make a sliding challenge on the forward.

The goalkeeper appeared to have won the ball at first glance, but Sutton believes that he should have been given his marching orders after watching the footage back.

Chris Sutton claims Jack Butland didn’t get the ball first

Butland is important for Rangers and has come up with massive saves in big moments for the Gers during his time in Glasgow.

Apart from this contentious incident, the Englishman was once again impressive and a massive reason why Rangers kept their fourth clean sheet under Rohl.

While talking on Sky Sports after the showdown, Sutton said that Butland was “really lucky” not to be punished by Kevin Clancy or VAR.

Sutton said: “I think that Jack Butland is so, so lucky in this situation. Bruce Anderson gets to the ball first.

“Butland comes out, and Anderson nicks the ball onto him. Butland gets away with it. Really, really lucky.”

James McFadden disagreed, given that James Tavernier was covering, while Kris Boyd requested to see replays more after struggling to conclude on the incident.

Rangers fully deserved their win vs Kilmarnock, here’s why

We have seen some dominant performances under Rohl so far, but the game versus Killie showed the direction that the Bears are going in under the German head coach.

From minute one, Rangers were on the front foot and looking for a goal, and it only took just over half an hour for Miovski to open up the scoring.

Killie actually had more shots than the Gers with 15, but after only creating one big chance, it’s clear to see that Rangers offered no real goal-scoring opportunity to the home side.

In comparison to Kilmarnock, Rangers had four fewer shots with 11, but managed to get twice the number of attempts on target with six.

It was a controlling performance going forward, and another piece of evidence to show that Rohl is indeed the man to lead the Bears back to glory.
