Rangers fans will be delighted after surprise Chris Sutton prediction for Wilfried Nancy

Rangers and Celtic have gone through turmoil this season as Hearts take advantage in the William Hill Premiership.

Danny Rohl was appointed at Ibrox after Russell Martin’s disastrous spell, with the German manager steadying the ship at the Gers.

Wilfried Nancy has also come in as Celtic’s new permanent manager after Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation at Parkhead, and the former Columbus Crew head coach has a massive task on his hands.

The French manager’s first test will be against Derek McInnes in the league as the Jambos look to secure their lead at the top of the table.

Chris Sutton expects Wilfried Nancy to drop points, opening door for Rangers in title race

Chris Sutton has admitted that Nancy has a tough few weeks ahead of him at Celtic, with Hearts, Roma and Motherwell some of the Hoops’ next opponents.

The French manager will then have a monumental task in the Old Firm derby on 3 January at Parkhead as Rohl continues to make progress in Govan.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Nancy lose or draw some games before facing the Gers in the William Hill Premiership, giving fans in G51 hope of putting up a fight in the title race.

Sutton wrote in the Daily Record on 6 December: “Nancy is stepping in ahead of a huge week and a brutal run of fixtures. He’s got seven games until the big derby at New Year — and it’s going to be about just getting by. He’s not going to be a coach in this first month in the job — he needs to be a manager.”

The former Celtic ace added: “Celtic will drop points over the next few weeks. But that would be the case no matter who was in charge.”

Hearts have opened the door for Rohl to close the points gap, but the Light Blues have dropped some points as well recently.

Danny Rohl can guarantee title charge with one January transfer after latest admission

Rohl will be hoping to take charge of the transfer window at Ibrox after Kevin Thelwell’s departure.

Rangers undoubtedly weakened their squad in the summer despite having a £20million net spend.

Speaking to the media on 5 December about the title race, the German manager admitted: “Of course, the last two draws opens again a little bit of a gap, but if we win tomorrow we will be just six points behind because the two teams ahead of us have to play against each other and both cannot win. It is a long way, but it’s not impossible.”

The most glaring issue the Light Blues arguably face is their lack of a goalscoring threat, with Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and Danilo struggling to find the back of the net.

It would make sense for the Gers to make a move for a new quality number early on in January, and that will surely give them a boost in their title challenge at Ibrox.
