Chris Sutton believes that Rangers could still win the Scottish Premiership title.

Sutton is known for his controversial opinions on Rangers, which he regularly provides live on air, or via his social media accounts.

Rangers drew 2-2 with Dundee United on 3 December, leaving them nine points behind league leaders Hearts, albeit with a game in hand.

Danny Rohl's side face a huge task to overhaul the Jambos and Sutton's beloved Celtic, but he does not think it is out of the question.

Why Chris Sutton believes that Rangers can still win the league

However, his justification was the January transfer window, as he was asked what kind of impact that may have on the title race.

Speaking on Sky Sports on 4 December, he said: “I think it [January transfer window] is [going to be] everything.

“I think the team out of Celtic, Rangers and Hearts, who has the best January, in terms of bringing transfers in, wins the Scottish Premiership.”

Why Sutton is wrong, Rangers will not win the title

To be fair to Sutton, his stance has been consistent, he has not ruled out the Gers from the race, despite his delight in winding up the supporters in G51.

However, he must have lost the plot, because there is no chance that the Light Blues will take the championship, even with a perfect window.

There are far too many holes in the squad to fix in one transfer swoop, and Rohl and the 49ers Enterprises group have a major task on their hands.

The strikers are not scoring, Rohl has just two senior centre-backs at his disposal at the moment and the only midfielder who is performing consistently is Nico Raskin.

The club do not even have replacements in place for Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, they are in shambles behind-the-scenes, and that will not help matters on the pitch.

It is unknown how much the new majority ownership will have to spend in January, as they already forked out around £22million in the summer, after coming into the club.

There are far too many issues to put the Govan outfit as title contenders at the minute, and it is unlikely that changes anytime soon.
