Rangers in incredible transfer reveal as one January signing could be guaranteed

Rangers have surprised many with their lack of goalscoring threat under Russell Martin and Danny Rohl this season.

Kevin Thelwell decided to spend £8million on Youssef Chermiti in the summer, and the former sporting director eventually saw his time at the Gers end prematurely.

Bojan Miovski has also struggled at Ibrox, showcasing the poor recruitment from the former Everton chief during his short stint at the Light Blues.

Despite spending a hefty sum on attacking reinforcements in the previous transfer window, the Glaswegian outfit have failed to replace the influence of Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny, which should be a major concern in G51.

Rangers must sanction new striker transfer in January

It’s “unbelievable” to see the Gers’ struggle to score goals after their investment up front, Scott McDermott says.

Danilo is another number nine the Light Blues decided to go big on a few years back, but the Brazilian striker’s inconsistency and persistent fitness issues at Ibrox have been frustrating.

While the Glaswegian outfit already spent a lot of money trying to replace Dessers and Igamane in the summer, their current issues in the final third may guarantee another centre-forward’s signing in January.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 2 December, McDermott said: “It’s incredible we’re saying that. It’s unbelievable to think they’ve got Chermiti at £8m, Miovski for £4m, Danilo for £5m, and they can’t buy a goal between them. If that doesn’t sum up how poor the recruitment has been, I don’t know what does.”

The journalist added: “The lack of creativity and the lack of goals now has become so alarming that I don’t think they can commit to a January transfer window without signing a striker.”

Ibrox News understands the likes of Braga are interested in Chermiti, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 21-year-old’s time in Govan come to an end sooner rather than later.

Kevin Thelwell should be ashamed after summer transfer snub at Ibrox

Lawrence Shankland should’ve been a no-brainer signing for Thelwell, with the Scotland international now shining at Hearts.

Rangers could’ve signed the 30-year-old for free in the summer after his contract at Hearts expired, but it doesn’t seem like they were interested.

Top three goalscorers in the William Hill Premiership this season

In the end, Shankland extended his stay at Tynecastle Park and is now one of the leading goalscorers in the William Hill Premiership in the current campaign.

With the change in the recruitment department at Ibrox, it will be interesting to see how the Gers go about their business in the winter transfer window.
