Danny Rohl suspicions revealed after new developments at Rangers

Danny Rohl has already come under the microscope as Rangers manager.

Rohl was appointed by Rangers in October, after the Gers finally landed a new head coach following weeks of searching and rejection.

Rangers failed to hire Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat and turned to the German as a seemingly last resort option at Ibrox.

The irony is that Rohl had previously turned down a Rangers move, even while being without a job after his Sheffield Wednesday departure.

There is now speculation building surrounding Rohl and why he decided to take on the role in Govan when no one else would.

Keith Jackson remains suspicious of Danny Rohl

Rohl could soon welcome new signings to Rangers as he looks to put his stamp on the Light Blues once the January transfer window opens.

The 36-year-old is in need of reinforcements, especially after the Gers could only manage a goalless draw against Falkirk in their last outing.

That result hasn’t helped the vibe surrounding the German, as frustration around the Gers continues to bubble under the surface.

Annoyance has been on show all season, whether that be towards Russell Martin, Kevin Thelwell or Patrick Stewart from the stands at Ibrox.

Having seen that, Keith Jackson has questioned why Rohl would accept the job in his Daily Record column on 2 December.

He said: “The weekly protests against Martin, Thelwell and Stewart were so ferocious in nature and so publicly visible that Rohl must have known he was speeding straight into a car crash.

Even so, he was absolutely prepared to strap himself into the driver’s seat and take his chances, even though the likes of Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat had taken one look at the smoking carnage down the road and thought better of it.

So, in many ways, Rohl is to be admired if only for his sheer chutzpah and undented self-belief. But along with all of the above, there was also a nagging suspicion that he was simply delighted to be offered such an opportunity and happy to take it on under any circumstances or conditions.

Rangers can’t question Rohl’s commitment

To suggest that a manager has taken a job without even thinking is wild, especially when that manager has already turned a club down.

Rohl held talks with Rangers and said no, before coming back and ultimately accepting a deal to become head coach at Ibrox.

The German has already shown flashes of quality in Govan, but is in need of new signings if he is to really get the most out of his side.

Results haven’t been particularly great so far, but he has shown he can get the best out of players and will be hoping for more time to prove his worth.

With a pre-season and a full campaign under his belt next time around, that is when judgment would be fair.
