Danny Rohl has just hit nail on the head with claim about Rangers transfer policy

Danny Rohl has stated that he has learned a lot from his first weeks at Rangers and revealed what the Bears may be looking for in the January transfer market.

Rangers have seen an upturn in results in the Scottish Premiership since Rohl arrived, and there have been signs that the German head coach is indeed the right man for the job.

However, Rohl hasn’t been impressed with Rangers’ summer signings, and the Gers are preparing for wholesale changes in January.

The 36-year-old has now hinted at exits for a handful of players and the type of personnel that Rangers will be after moving forward – and it’s only good news.

Danny Rohl wants players who ‘understand’ the Rangers way

Kevin Thelwell was recently fired by Rangers, not long after an abysmal summer spending spree that saw Rangers bring £26m worth of players who have quite frankly been failures.

Rangers may have to cut their losses with Youssef Chermiti, as Thelo Aasgaard has also come under fire for performances, among many other newcomers.

A list of poor Rangers signings made this summer:

Whether it be poor value for money or just an outright travesty of a signing, there’s a strong argument to say that Rangers had their worst transfer window in history in the summer.

Now, BBC Sport Scotland has uploaded a video on X of Rohl discussing his thoughts on the Rangers squad, suggesting that some don’t “understand” what it means to play for the Bears.

Rohl said: “We need players that also understand what it means to play for Rangers, and I think I’ve learned in the last weeks which players can handle this environment, and who needs to improve.

“I’ve tried to help and give them a positive mindset, but it’s all about confidence, and confidence is important.”

And do you know what? He’s completely right, and those who are slacking in effort need to be called out.

Rangers need to go back to basics with their transfer approach

As Rohl said, he needs players who want to play for Rangers, and though that’s always been appreciated, it’s never needed more than right now at Ibrox.

It’s simply a non-negotiable, and there was too much emphasis on bringing left-field signings who were supposedly young and full of talent in the summer.

A bunch of them players only seem to care about themselves and their own performances, not the team or the fans.

Whether or not the 49ers will change their transfer approach, having sacked Thelwell, remains to be seen.

However, the Gers need to revert to getting players who want to be here, and ones who would be proud to play for this club.
