Rangers ‘problem’ raised as Thelo Aasgaard exit claim made during live Falkirk coverage

Rangers have a big problem regarding summer signing Thelo Aasgaard after his performance against Falkirk.

Aasgaard joined Rangers from Luton Town over the summer, but has failed to settle into life at Ibrox.

The 23-year-old struggled yet again against Falkirk, hooked off in the 68th minute as Rangers were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Danny Rohl’s side now sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, nine points adrift of table-topping Hearts and seven points behind arch-rivals Celtic.

Rangers will struggle to offload Thelo Aasgaard

Rangers’ poor summer transfer window was evident once again in the first half against Falkirk, and they managed just one shot on target before the break.

Aasgaard was once again anonymous, struggling to help the Gers create anything meaningful as they tried to make a breakthrough.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, reporter Alasdair Lamont highlighted the big issue Rangers with trying to offload Aasgaard.

He said: “The problem for Rangers is that if they want to move players like him on, they’re not going to recoup the money they spent.”

Former Scotland international Steven Thompson was in agreement, adding that the long-term contracts given to underperforming players are hurting the club.

Thompson said: “The other problem you’ve got, if they don’t want to move on then they’re not moving on. They’re on two or three year contracts on £10-20k a week. That’s another issue for Rangers if they want to get these players out.”

Rangers set for busy January transfer window

With Rohl replacing Russell Martin last month, the former Sheffield Wednesday has inherited a squad that was crafted by his predecessor over the summer.

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell was sacked earlier this week as well, and he was directly responsible for the recruitment ahead of this season.

While Thelwell’s summer signings will remain in Rohl’s squad until the January transfer window, they may be the first on the chopping block if Rangers are looking to offload some deadwood.

One of the recent incomings, Youssef Chermiti, has been woeful since his arrival from Everton, and could be one of those set for an exit in the new year.
