Rangers accused of lying after announcement made at Ibrox in dismal Falkirk draw

Rangers have struggled to attract big crowds to Ibrox in recent weeks and the issue was evident once again during their draw with Falkirk.

The problems started early on in the season, as supporters protested the reign of Russell Martin before he was eventually sacked.

Fans were then unhappy with the leadership team of Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, before the pair were also dismissed due to the poor summer transfer window.

However, despite Martin, Thelwell and Stewart all departing the Gers, Ibrox was still far from packed out against Falkirk.

Rangers attendance figure questioned against Falkirk

Rangers were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Falkirk, ending their run of four straight wins in the league.

The Gers managed just three shots on target all afternoon, failing to make the breakthrough and secure all three points.

Danny Rohl’s side now sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, nine points adrift of table-topping Hearts and seven points behind arch-rivals Celtic.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, reporter Alasdair Lamont said that the attendance inside Ibrox was 50,288.

Former Scotland international Steven Thompson was sceptical about the figure, though, believing that there were far fewer fans inside the ground than that.

He replied: “Not a chance. Not a single chance.”

Rangers eye new appointments after recent exits

The recent exits of Thelwell and Stewart leave two positions to be filled, with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers chief Paraag Marathe likely to personally oversee the search.

Rangers have been urged to appoint David Weir as their new sporting director to come in and help the Gers’ recruitment efforts.

Weir was only recently hired by Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, but that was prior to this Rangers position becoming available.

The Glasgow giants may be in a position where they can convince him to make a swift exit from the French side and complete a move to Scotland.
