Danny Rohl ‘worry’ raised already at Rangers after disappointing scenes at Ibrox

Danny Rohl is already facing some doubts over his managerial ability after Rangers dropped points in a 0-0 draw to Falkirk on Sunday.

Rohl recorded four successive Scottish Premiership wins ahead of the clash at Ibrox, but the Bears produced a lethargic display against the resolute visitors.

The former Sheffield Wednesday manager will be furious with his side, who failed to create any meaningful chances and ultimately faded away as the game progressed.

Rangers’ draw to Falkirk leaves them nine points off league leaders Hearts, and Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson has highlighted his concerns about Rohl’s credentials.

Kevin Thelwell’s decision to appoint Danny Rohl could backfire

Rohl’s first game in charge of Rangers ended in a dismal 3-0 loss to Brann, and while his side have slowly started to improve, very few of their performances have been convincing.

Speaking on Daily Record Hotline Live after the match, Jackson implied he is far from convinced by Rohl’s start in Govan.

He said: “Rohl was appointed by Kevin Thelwell, and I think that’s a worry. I heard his name was getting chanted at the end of the match by Falkirk fans.

“I wonder when it starts to turn on Rohl because I don’t see what he’s doing at the moment.”

The inability to perform in Europe has been a huge problem, and Rangers need a miracle to avoid elimination from the Europa League phase.

The 34-year-old manager has been warmly welcomed by Gers supporters, and the general consensus he that he must be given time to bring in his own players.

While that is true, given the mess that Thelwell oversaw in the summer, the stalemate with Falkirk confirmed that it will take a long time before the Bears are challenging for the title again.

It’s clear that this group of players is nowhere near good enough to compete on multiple fronts, and Rohl has been put in an awfully tough place as he continues to implement his footballing philosophy.

Danny Rohl dealt a bad hand by Andrew Cavenagh and Kevin Thelwell

Russell Martin oversaw Rangers’ worst start to a league campaign in 47 years, and Andrew Cavenagh must take all the blame for what he’s done in Govan since arriving in May.

Rohl was left to pick up the pieces of a disjointed squad and a toxic relationship between the board and the fans, so it’s no wonder the performances aren’t incredible at the moment.

Rohl has the full support of the 49ers, and he has a chance in January to hopefully bring in some players of his own.

For Jackson to criticise the German head coach is certainly harsh, and it’s clear that a lot of work needs to be done before an accurate verdict can be given on Rohl.
