Rangers figure brutally told position ‘untenable’ at Ibrox as another sack looms
Robbie Thelwell’s Rangers future is in doubt following the bombshell sacking of his father Kevin.
Rangers decided to sack Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell on Monday after Andrew Cavenagh expressed his desire to change things up behind the scenes at Ibrox.
Thelwell was a driving force behind appointing his son Robbie, who continues to serve as Rangers’ head of first-team recruitment.
However, Hugh Keevins now sees the younger Thelwell‘s future at the Bears “untenable” after the dismissal of his dad.

Robbie Thelwell ‘cannot last’ at Rangers – Hugh Keevins
Many Rangers fans were concerned to learn about Robbie Thelwell’s appointment, given his father had already failed to win anyone over in Glasgow.
The 26-year-old is now stuck in the mud, and Cavenagh and the 49ers will be questioned over their reasoning for still having the other Thelwell around.
- Kevin Thelwell was appointed Rangers’ sporting director in April this year
- Robbie Thelwell was then hired at the start of October
- The father and son would have worked together on signings in January
Rangers had a poor summer transfer window, and many are already starting to wonder what the delay is over Kevin Thelwell’s dismissal.
While speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Wednesday, journalist Keevins said Robbie Thelwell simply cannot last at Rangers without his dad.
Keevins said: “I think his life would be impossible at Rangers now that his dad has gone. I do think in the fullness of time, he’ll go because his position is untenable.
“Brought in by his father, which is the reason for the criticism, and I fail to see how he can be head of recruitment throughout the next transfer window. Robbie Thelwell cannot last long-term at Rangers.”

Details of why Rangers may be hesitant about the decision may have already been revealed.
Rangers may still be assessing their options
Given that fan anger played a part in Thelwell and Stewart’s sacking, there’s every chance that Rangers could still decide to let the head of recruitment go.
However, Rangers have decided to keep Thelwell’s allies for now, which includes his son, but there could be a review ongoing behind the scenes.
When Danny Rohl was appointed, Cavenagh stated his support for Thelwell and Stewart, catching everyone by surprise with the sudden axing of the pair.
Rangers fans may see more change in the coming weeks, and it could all depend on who replaces the controversial duo.
