Danny Rohl allegations are ‘wide of the mark’ on Rangers day of long knives
Danny Rohl’s influence at Rangers is no longer in doubt following the departures of Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart.
On Monday, Rangers released a statement confirming the firing of Thelwell and Stewart, as Andrew Cavenagh and Co. have started to target replacements.
Rohl was appointed Gers boss in October, but Kevin Muscat always seemed like Rangers’ preferred choice in replacing Russell Martin.
Due to this, there have been assumptions that Rohl would be controlled by the departed executives, rather than making his own decisions for the club.
Now, it seems allegations are “wide of the mark” following the bombshell news.

Danny Rohl wasn’t Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart’s ‘puppet’
Things have been going swimmingly under Rohl, with Rangers picking up another win in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, beating Livingston 2-1.
Rangers fans will be delighted with the start Rohl has made and perhaps even more ecstatic about the departures of Thelwell and Stewart.
However, because of how Rohl’s appointment came about, some feared that the German may have been overruled by the former Rangers chiefs in making key decisions.
- Some Rangers fans have suggested that Thelwell has been picking Rohl’s teams
- Stewart and Thelwell have both come under fire for making unpopular decisions
- There have even been protests targeted at the pair this season
David Edgar, who owns the Heart and Hand podcast on X suggested that all previous claims on Rohl being a potential “puppet” for the pair should now be put to bed.
Edgar said: “I think it’s fairly clear that allegations that Danny Rohl would be ‘Stewart and Thelwell’s puppet’ were wide of the mark.
“To be fair, Sheffield Wednesday fans were very clear that he’s not that type having walked away after broken promises from their owner.”
In a shocking turn of events, it could even be likely that Rohl has already spoken to the 49ers about the sacking of the duo.
Rohl may have convinced Andrew Cavenagh to make the decision
Rohl had his issues at Sheffield Wednesday with owner Dejphon Chansiri, and made a stand this summer to force a move away from the Owls.
Chansiri was trying to trap the 36-year-old, but in turn, Rohl’s efforts paid off as he now finds himself doing well in Glasgow.
There’s now a possibility that Rohl actually spoke to Cavenagh and Co. regarding the sacking of Thelwell and Stewart, prior to the decision being made.

The German will have no doubt made a great impression on the 49ers, and they likely value his opinion highly.
Rohl should be getting all the credit, as he’s the only man to thank for the Gers’ return to form.
