Thelo Aasgaard needs to be benched as Rangers star only passenger vs Livingston

Danny Rohl made his feelings clear on Thelo Aasgaard after hooking him at half-time in Rangers’ win against Livingston.

Rangers beat Livingston 2-1 in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, as Ibrox roared once again for another victory under Rohl.

The Gers perhaps escaped punishment in the first half when Emmanuel Fernandez appeared to handle the ball, with controversy around the incident still ongoing.

Rohl decided to bring on Bojan Miovski for Aasgaard after the first 45 minutes, in a decision which paid back tenfold after he was involved in the winner.

Aasgaard was not happy with the decision, but suggestions followed that he needs to be benched after yet another poor performance.

Thelo Aasgaard was dreadful vs Livingston

The victory marks Rohl’s fourth in the Scottish Premiership, extending the German head coach’s perfect start in the competition.

It will be straight back to business for the 36-year-old, however, and with Braga next in the Europa League on Thursday, Rohl will have big decisions to make.

The Gers boss will be glad he decided to drag Aasgaard off at the break, with his replacement Miovski setting up Mohamed Diomande for the winner.

The attacker lost possession four times in just a mere 19 touches, with additional statistics proving just how poor he was.

Scottish journalist Jonny McFarlane shared his anger with the Aasgaard’s performance on X, and only had negative words for the Norwegian.

McFarlane said: “Thelo Aasgaard is doing nothing, week in, week out and surely needs to be benched.”

Rohl has an easy call to make with Aasgaard in Rangers’ upcoming games, but it may force the German to make tactical tweaks.

Could Bojan Miovski play as a second striker?

Miovski has had his critics, to say the least, but he was much more effective than Aasgaard was during his performance.

The striker isn’t known for his link-up play, but he truly left the ball on a plate for Diomande to easily smash the ball home for the winner.

It’s a skill that’s not been showcased from Miovski, who until this point has played mainly as a lone striker in games, seeing little of the ball.

Rohl is still in the early stages of figuring out his best starting eleven, and Aasgaard hasn’t done himself any favours for future playing opportunities.
