Rangers fans will continue to have doubts about January as Kevin Thelwell endorsed
James Taylor has admitted Rangers will be active in the winter transfer window.
The Gers’ chief financial officer has backed Kevin Thelwell’s admission of further investment in the team at Govan in January.
Danny Rohl should be looking to sign a new striker at Ibrox, but it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues will have the necessary finances to pull it off.
Taylor previously hinted at selling players like Nicolas Raskin to raise funds for reinforcements in the coming weeks, and the midfielder’s situation in G51 will be one to watch closely.

Rangers plan on extensive investment for Danny Rohl
With an approximate £20million at the Gers in the summer, Taylor has suggested similar money may be spent in the upcoming transfer windows.
It looks like Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ long-term project at Ibrox involves significant investment in the coming years.
While the Light Blues’ supporters will be excited about the prospect of making new signings in January, the fact that Thelwell will surely be leading the recruitment could potentially be a point of contention.
Speaking to RangersTV on 21 November, Taylor said: “In a recent interview with Kevin, he described it as we will be active, and that’s something that I would back and endorse.”
The CFO added: “From our perspective, we recognise that summer is not one window; we will be looking at doing this over a number of different windows, and we will be looking at continuing to invest in the team.”
Most of Thelwell’s signings at Ibrox in the summer have turned out to be underwhelming, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make the same mistakes in the coming weeks.
Kevin Thelwell may have learnt his lesson at Ibrox
Thelwell has admitted Rohl will have the final say on transfers, which will undoubtedly be a relief for supporters.
In the sporting director’s latest interview at Rangers on 15 November, he said: “It’s important as a sporting director that you don’t bring players that the head coach doesn’t want to sign off on, so it very much is about us working together with, in this instance, Danny having a final say.”
| Players | Transfer fee |
| Youssef Chermiti | £8m |
| Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
There are doubts over Thelwell’s judgement at the Gers, with the former Everton chief deciding to spend £8m to sign Youssef Chermiti.
Hopefully, the Englishman has learnt from his mistakes from the summer and will be more diligent with his player recommendations to Rohl in January.
