Rangers primed for Scottish Premiership title bid after what’s happened at Celtic

Martyn Waghorn believes Danny Rohl has what it takes to launch Rangers back into the Scottish Premiership title race.

Rohl replaced Russell Martin at Ibrox during a time when the Gers were crying out for a change in managerial leadership.

The Gers have since thrived in the Scottish Premiership under his leadership.

Indeed, Rangers triumphed in a 3-0 victory over Dundee before the November international break to make it three consecutive wins in the Premiership.

As a result, both fans and spectators have positive feelings about Rohl and the Gers’ season.

Martyn Waghorn claims the Premiership title is within reach

There was a moment when Rangers’ future efforts in the Premiership were deemed useless, given Hearts’ sensational start.

The situation has now changed. The Jam Tarts dropped points to Dundee United before the international break.

This has resulted in just a 12-point gap between the league leaders and the Gers, which is catchable, considering that the season is still long.

Meanwhile, Celtic have dropped yet more points these past couple of games, with there being just five points between Rangers and their bitter rivals.

As a result, Waghorn, who has come up against Rohl first-hand, believes their new coach can steer them back into the title race.

“I think the league is wide open. Yes, Hearts have started well, but can they keep it going? Also, Celtic don’t look as strong as they have been,” Sky Sports pundit Waghorn told the Daily Record on 19 November.

“It is all there for Rangers. I think if Rangers can put a string of results together, then they’ll be competitive again.

If the team can continue to do that in the league, then they can definitely catch the teams above them. There is still a long way to go in the season.”

Therefore, Rangers fans could have quite a bit to look forward to as the season progresses.

Danny Rohl is already implementing change at Ibrox

The former Gers striker came up against Rohl when he was manager at Sheffield Wednesday, and has given an insight into how the 36-year-old wants his side to play.

“They were hard-working and organised. He normally likes to play with a couple of lads that can hit teams on the break,” Waghorn continued.

“He is very attack-minded, but also lads who are willing to do a job for the team.

“All he wants is players to work hard, do their job off the ball and allow his better players to go and create that bit of magic. Hopefully, he can recreate that.”

Rangers’ recent win over Dundee indicates that change is already here:

The Gers also dominated their defensive metrics, winning 54 per cent of their duels compared to Dundee’s 46 per cent, according to Sofascore.

Furthermore, Rangers also made 30 total tackles, 51 recoveries and 27 clearances while Dundee made 17 total tackles, 46 recoveries and 19 clearances.

It was a complete performance from beginning to end and highlights the disciplined, organised attacking side Rohl wants his team to be.

Therefore, it is becoming increasingly clear that Rangers have appointed the right man to guide them to league success this season.
