Rangers vs Livingston preview: Team news, lineup, prediction

Rangers return to action against Livingston in the William Hill Premiership after the November international break.

Danny Rohl got the better of Dundee at Dens Park on 9 November, as the Gers got their third back-to-back league win after the 3-0 victory.

The Light Blues will now welcome David Martindale’s team to G51 on 22 November, hoping to continue their winning streak.

Rohl has revived talks of a title run at Ibrox, and the German manager will be looking for three points to keep the pressure on Hearts and Celtic in the table.

Preview

After the 2-0 defeat against Roma in the Europa League, the dearth of quality in the Gers’ squad was highlighted.

While Rohl has brought some stability since replacing Russell Martin, there’s still arguably a long way to go before the club can start competing for major trophies again at Ibrox.

The Light Blues are 12 points behind table-toppers Hearts, but a consistent run in the coming weeks could see them close the gap with Derek McInnes’ team.

As for Livingston, they are at the bottom of the table after playing 12 league games, winning just once in the William Hill Premiership.

Livingston (last six all competitions): D D L L D L

Head-to-head

Russell Martin’s only league win came against Livingston on 28 September, with the Gers recording a 2-1 victory after a stoppage-time goal from Max Aarons.

The Light Blues have beaten Livi in their last five meetings in the William Hill Premiership, and are unbeaten in 22 games in all competitions against them.

Rohl will hope to continue the trend of getting the better of the Lions, and fans will certainly believe it’s a winnable fixture on paper.

The Glaswegian outfit’s last loss against Livingston came away from home in the league on 30 September 2018 in a 1-0 defeat.

Team News and predicted lineup

John Souttar was replaced by Grant Hanley last minute as Scotland secured their place in the World Cup for the first time since 1998, beating Denmark 4-2 in the World Cup qualifiers on 18 November.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the centre-back miss the game at Ibrox after the international break, and Nasser Djiga could potentially replace him in the starting lineup.

Rohl should also make a few attacking changes to the team, with Thelo Aasgaard playing as a number 10 and Danilo the sole number nine.

As for Livingston, Adam Montgomery, Aidan Denholm, Cameron Kerr, Ryan McGowan, and Shane Blaney may be unavailable due to injury.

Rangers predicted lineup vs Livingston

Rangers predicted XI: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Cornelius, Meghoma; Raskin, Diomande, Aasgaard; Moore, Gassama, Danilo

Livingston predicted XI: Prior; Brenet, Finlayson, Wilson, Montano; Susoho, Sylla, May; Smith, Yengi, Bokila

Prediction: Rangers 4-0 Livingston

Rohl has the Gers on a roll, and with the Ibrox faithful behind the team, it’s surely time for them to make a statement in the William Hill Premiership.

Danilo has scored two goals in his last three appearances, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Brazilian forward bag another.

Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama have been attacking threats in recent matches and should be confident about getting on the scoresheet against Livi.

Another goal could potentially come through a set-piece, with Derek Cornelius a threat in the air, and a 4-0 win for the Glaswegian outfit shouldn’t be out of the question.
