Nico Raskin destined for the top as Barry Ferguson shares what Rangers cannot let happen
Barry Ferguson accepts it is inevitable Nicolas Raskin will soon leave Rangers, but hopefully not midway through this season.
Reports suggested Raskin and Russell Martin had fallen out in August, with the Belgium international wanting a move away from Ibrox during the summer transfer window.
Raskin is linked with a move to Besiktas as speculation continues to emerge surrounding his future in Govan.
However, Raskin excelled in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Dundee on 9 November, and there is hope among the fans that he is here to stay in the long run.
Ferguson has heaped high praise on the 24-year-old and has pleaded with Rangers not to let Raskin leave in January.

Barry Ferguson prays Rangers won’t sell Nico Raskin in January
Raskin was named Rangers Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season, and his performance levels often dictate how the rest of the squad will play.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show on 17 November, Ferguson hopes that Raskin can stay in Govan for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
He said: “It was good to see he was back to his best against Dundee. He has the ability to play at the highest level, and Rangers will have to cash in at some stage.
“I’d like to see him stay until the end of the season because he’ll be difficult to replace. They’ve just got up and running under Rohl, and they can’t afford to let him go in January.”
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2022/23 | 16 | 0 | 2 |
| 2023/24 | 31 | 1 | 1 |
| 2024/25 | 48 | 5 | 11 |
| 2025/26 | 21 | 2 | 4 |
Raskin’s dad has said that his son will stay at Rangers, although that will all change depending on which teams are interested in him.
Rohl has deployed him in a more advanced position where his goal threat is notable in contrast to his ineffective performances under Russell Martin.

Raskin has been invaluable at G51 since his arrival from Standard Liege in 2023, and Rohl will be desperate to hold onto his midfielder for as long as possible.
Nico Raskin’s World Cup campaign could bear weight on his future
Raskin scored his first Belgium goal in September, and he looks nailed on to make the squad for the World Cup in June.
An impressive tournament in North America would lead to heightened speculation and interest around Raskin’s future should he not leave in January
He is not expected to start, however, a good six months of football for the Bears could change the plans of manager Rudi Garcia.
Only time will tell whether Raskin sees out the season at G51, and Ferguson’s thoughts surely echo those of the anxious Bears supporters.
