Danny Rohl will be livid after Rangers vs Livingston announcement

Rangers face a reunion with controversial referee John Beaton when they host Livingston on Saturday.

Beaton has been involved in numerous incidents involving Rangers over the past few years, and he will be the video assistant referee (VAR) for the Ibrox contest.

Ross Hardie will be the man in the middle for the clash on 22 November, with Dougie Potter and Douglas Ross as his assistants on the sidelines.

Danny Rohl will surely be livid as Beaton has a history of making the wrong decisions when it comes to the Gers.

Rangers have a controversial history with John Beaton.

Why does John Beaton have a complicated relationship with Rangers?

Beaton failed to book Hibernian’s Kieran Dowie for a blatant dive against Rangers in October, and that was his latest controversy involving the Govan club.

The most high-profile error was when he did not award Rangers a penalty in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic, when Liam Scales fouled Vaclav Cerny in extra time.

Another incident was when Alfredo Morelos was fouled by Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson in December 2019, and Beaton decided that the contact took place outside of the box, with Steven Gerrard claiming in his post-match media duties, that the referee told him it should have been a penalty.

He also incensed Russell Martin in the pre-season friendly with Middlesbrough, when he did not spot a Luke Ayling handball in the penalty area, and the Gers manager was sent off due to his reaction.

Rohl will be furious amid Beaton appointment

Surely it would be easier for the Scottish FA to just not put Beaton on Gers matches, as he seems to bring controversy on a regular basis, and seemingly cannot handle the big occasions that come with refereeing the Govan outfit.

Rohl will hope that his incompetence does not affect his side’s chances of securing a fourth straight victory in the league, and derail their momentum ahead of a crucial period.

If Beaton makes another mistake, surely Rohl and the Gers will have to make a point about it, so that he is not selected for Light Blues matches in future.
