‘Danny Rohl has one obstacle in Rangers title race as Wilfried Nancy a gamble in bonkers season’

Danny Rohl has an uphill battle in the William Hill Premiership after Rangers failed in the summer transfer window.

Daily Mail journalist Calum Crowe believes the Gers can’t be ruled out of the league title race, but the German manager isn’t helped by Kevin Thelwell’s recent recruitment being poor.

Rohl has kept hopes alive at Ibrox, winning three back-to-back games in the William Hill Premiership after beating Dundee 3-0 away from home on 9 November.

Thelwell deserves scrutiny for signing players such as Youssef Chermiti, but the sporting director has admitted the Glaswegian outfit will back the former Sheffield Wednesday boss in January.

Celtic appointment of Wilfried Nancy may be good news for Rangers and Hearts

Celtic could potentially be making a massive mistake by appointing Nancy as their new manager, Crowe says.

The journalist feels Hearts may be the “real winners” in all of this, as they hope to end the 40-year duopoly of the Old Firm clubs in the league.

It has truly been one of the most “bonkers” seasons in Scotland, as the Ibrox and Parkhead hierarchies deal with turmoil simultaneously.

Crowe wrote in the Daily Mail on 18 November: “Ultimately, this is a huge roll of the dice. One which provides another intriguing sub-plot in what is becoming one of the most bonkers seasons in Scottish football.”

“The real winners could be Hearts. If Nancy ends up failing, the door would not just be ajar for them to win the league title, it would be absolutely wide open.

“Rangers can’t yet be discounted either. Rohl has clearly got something about him and is turning things around at Ibrox, albeit he’s hampered by the club’s woeful recruitment in the summer.”

Danny Rohl should have one demand from Andrew Cavenagh

Rohl should ask for reinforcements at Ibrox in the winter transfer window, as the right signings may lead the Gers to the league title.

Rangers undoubtedly need to reinforce specific areas of their squad, and Andrew Cavenagh must be willing to spend more money at Ibrox.

A new centre-back and a reliable striker could certainly go a long way in helping the German manager close the gap with Hearts and Celtic.

The Light Blues are 12 points behind the Jambos with a game in hand, but that could potentially change in the coming weeks as Derek McInnes’ team start to drop points.
