Danny Rohl has fresh Rangers crisis after latest international scenes

Danny Rohl may have his head in his hands after what happened to Rangers stars John Souttar and Derek Cornelius on international duty.

Souttar was part of the Scotland squad that secured a historic 4-2 win over Denmark to seal a first World Cup appearance since 1998 on 18 November, but he did not take to the pitch at Hampden Park.

Meanwhile, Cornelius was taken off after 30 minutes in Canada’s 2-0 win over Venezuela in the early hours of 19 November.

That may leave Rohl‘s plans for the Scottish Premiership clash with Livingston at Ibrox on 22 November in chaos.

Derek Cornelius and John Souttar to be assessed by Rangers

Rangers ace Souttar suffered an injury in the warm-up, so he did not feature in the Tartan Army’s latest success, which would have been a blow for Rohl.

However, it may have extended into a crisis after Cornelius was forced off with an issue, with the Gers sweating over the fitness of both men.

The Rangers Review claimed on 19 November that the Light Blues are set to assess the defenders when they return to Auchenhowie.

Why Danny Rohl needs Souttar and Cornelius back as soon as possible

Souttar has been an ever-present at the back for the Gers this season, only missing the Scottish Cup win over Alloa in August.

Meanwhile, Cornelius has emerged as a key player for Rohl since the German took over in Govan, missing just one game, the 3-0 Europa League loss to Roma.

If the duo are ruled out for the contest on Saturday, then Rohl will likely have to rely on Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez.

Djiga, who is on loan from Wolves, has struggled to find his feet in G51, and there have been suggestions that he could be sent back to the Premier League outfit.

Meanwhile, Fernandez, who was signed from Peterborough United for £3million, has featured just three times since joining the Gers, and has failed to convince so far.

It would be a nightmare for Rohl, if he was without his two first-choice centre-backs and forced to rely on Djiga and Fernandez to step up.

He has made a perfect start in the league, but that could all be derailed after the latest international scenes.
