Philippe Clement set for first job since Rangers exit as Thelwell links emerge

Rangers fans will have some fond memories of Philippe Clement during his time at Ibrox.

Unfortunately, Clement fell to the same fate as many around him in recent years and was sacked after a dreadful run of form last season.

Barry Ferguson, Russell Martin and now Danny Rohl have already followed, with Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises definitely needing something to stick.

As for Clement, he could be back in management within hours.

Norwich City set to appoint Philippe Clement

News emerged on Tuesday that Norwich were closing in on the appointment of Clement.

John Percy has reported via X that the Belgian is likely to take training on 18 November ahead of his first job since leaving Ibrox back in February.

Rangers are flying domestically under Rohl, but their form in Europe continues to falter.

Clement did enjoy some sensational nights under the lights in the Europa League, so that is one thing that the German could look to follow after the international break.

Thelwell link emerges at Norwich

Amazingly, Robbie Thelwell only left Carrow Road in 2024.

Kevin Thelwell has faced immense criticism over his son’s appointment at Ibrox, but has used every opportunity to insist it is from merit, rather than his family link.

Thelwell Jr worked at Wolves and Aston Villa as a scout before moving to Norwich in the same role. Last season, that changed to a Loan Manager role, before his move to Govan.

That means Clement, if officially confirmed as Norwich manager, will likely be working with a squad put together under the influence of a Thelwell, and we know how well that has gone.

Norwich are currently 23rd in the Championship and four points from safety, and nobody will be surprised at that, given what has unfolded at Ibrox.

As for Clement, Rangers fans will no doubt wish him the best and hope he can inspire them to safety and more before the end of the season.
