Oliver Antman may just have altered Danny Rohl’s plans amid scenes away from Rangers

Oliver Antman has given Rangers boss Danny Rohl some food for thought while away on international duty with Finland.

Antman was part of Finland’s squad for the World Cup qualifier against Malta last week and Monday’s friendly with Andorra.

The 24-year-old has had a tough time of things since arriving in the summer, with just one assist and no goals in 11 Scottish Premiership and Europa League outings.

Doubts have been raised over Antman’s future at Rangers, but he may now have given himself a confidence boost with his display for Finland on Monday.

Rangers signed Antman from Go Ahead Eagles for £3.5million, and that pretty sizeable fee could yet rise to £5m if various add-ons are triggered.

The Gers would therefore have expected far more from Antman than supporters have witnessed so far.

PlayerFee
Youssef Chermiti£10m
Thelo Aasgaard£3.5m
Emmanuel Fernandez£3.5m
Oliver Antman£3m – could rise to £5m
Bojan Miovski£2.6m – could rise to £4.2m

Antman scored six goals and assisted 16 for Go Ahead Eagles last season, but he has yet to break his scoring duck in the Scottish Premiership.

However, Antman netted for Finland in their 4-0 home win over Andorra, with that his eighth senior international goal.

While it may only have been a low-key friendly, that goal would no doubt have given the versatile attacker plenty of much-needed confidence.

Antman could come into contention for Rangers vs Livingston

Antman has proved a versatile option for Rangers this season under Russell Martin and then Rohl, having been used on the right, left and through the middle of attack, as well as in deeper positions.

The stats are pretty telling, though. As per Sofascore data, Antman has no goals in 17 Rangers matches, while he is averaging 0.38 shots per game.

This goalscoring display for Finland could be just what Antman needs, though, and he will no doubt be in Rohl’s thinking for Saturday’s return to action against Livingston.

Antman is too expensive an acquisition to be restricted to cameo roles from the bench, so fingers crossed this provides him with lift-off at Ibrox.
