What Danny Rohl has already said about Shea Charles as Rangers reunion on cards

Danny Rohl is hoping to reunite with Southampton midfielder Shea Charles at Rangers in the upcoming transfer windows.

SportsBoom reported on 13 November that the Gers are monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation at St Mary’s Stadium after Will Still’s sacking.

Kevin Thelwell has admitted Rohl will have a final say on signings, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the German manager ask for the Northern Ireland international’s arrival.

Joe Rothwell has turned out to be a disappointing addition at Ibrox, and reinforcements will undoubtedly be needed at the Glaswegian outfit in January.

It’s been claimed that the Gers will have to compete with Sheffield United if Southampton decide to sell Charles in January or next summer.

Rohl is a massive fan of the defensive midfielder, who made 43 league appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season, scoring one goal and providing five assists.

The German manager identified the Northern Irishman’s strengths at Hillsborough in the previous campaign as the Owls finished 12th in the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking on Charles, the 36-year-old head coach said, “He is strong with and against the ball, he is very good as a holding six. He understands where he has to cover, winning balls, accelerating the game.”

Rohl wants intensity and determination from his players at Ibrox, something the young midfielder showed in abundance at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Glaswegian outfit are in desperate need of quality players, and the Northern Ireland international could be one of them.

Shea Charles transfer needed now more than ever at Ibrox

Nicolas Raskin is expected to leave Ibrox at the end of the season, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2027.

It would make sense for Rangers to cash in on the Belgium international with 12 months remaining on his deal at Ibrox.

Charles could potentially replace the 24-year-old, who has been influential for the Gers since the previous campaign.

Rohl may need a new number six to build his team around sooner rather than later, and there seems to be no better time than now to pursue a move for the Southampton midfielder.
