Joe Rothwell set for quick exit as Rangers line-up significant January upgrade
Joe Rothwell will surely be on his way out of Rangers as Danny Rohl eyes the addition of Shea Charles.
The midfielder has had a torrid time at Ibrox since his summer move from Bournemouth.
Questions have continuously been asked about Rothwell’s fitness at Ibrox, with the 30-year-old struggling to finish matches.
Now, with Rangers linked with Southampton’s Charles, this will surely result in the end of Rothwell’s poor career at the Glaswegians.

Shea Charles would be a significant upgrade on Joe Rothwell at Rangers
Charles is currently at Southampton but has played for Rohl before, with the midfielder enjoying a successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season.
Since returning to the Saints, the 22-year-old has become a regular, starting 12 matches in the Championship this season.
Now, the Gers are monitoring the situation regarding the youngster following Will Still’s sacking ahead of a potential move either in January or the summer.
If they are able to pull this off, Rothwell’s career at Rangers would be all but over.

Charles would be a significant upgrade on the midfielder, with Sofascore on 17 November showing that the Southampton midfielder’s defensive stats are far better.
With Rothwell already struggling for minutes under Rohl at Rangers, a departure in January would be inevitable, with the former Bournemouth star unlikely to get any game time upon Charles’ arrival.
How bad has Rothwell been at Ibrox?
On top of his subpar defensive stats, the midfielder has offered little at Ibrox.
Rothwell is only producing 0.9 key passes per game, while offering little to nothing in attack.
| Joe Rothwell in the Scottish Premiership this season | Per 90 minutes |
| Shots | 0.8 |
| Key passes | 0.9 |
| Possession lost | 5.5 |
| Fouls | 0.8 |
| Average minutes | 52 |
While Russell Martin made many terrible signings at Rangers, the addition of the midfielder is no doubt one of the worst.
The sooner that Rothwell is gone from Ibrox, the better it will be for both parties.
