Danny Rohl ‘sympathy’ shared as major Russell Martin difference already emerges at Rangers

Derek Ferguson has pointed out the key difference he’s already noticed between Danny Rohl and Russell Martin that is endearing the German to Rangers fans.

Rohl has had a mixed start to his Rangers tenure results wise, having won three and lost three of his six matches so far.

Rangers beat Dundee 3-0 last time out to make it three Scottish Premiership wins in a row, keeping the gap to leaders Hearts to a still rather large 12 points, albeit with a game in hand.

However, Rangers also lost to Celtic at Hampden Park in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals, as well as losing to Brann and Roma in the Europa League.

Even when trailing in that loss to Celtic, though, Rangers fans chanted Rohl’s name loudly from the stands.

It is a far cry from when Martin was in charge, with supporters never truly taking to the ex-Southampton boss.

Danny Rohl adheres himself to Rangers traditions

Rangers fans made their thoughts clear to Martin, ultimately leaving those high up with little choice but to sack him.

One of the gripes for many when it came to Martin was his failure to adhere himself to Rangers traditions.

Unlike Martin, though, Rohl was quick to return to Rangers traditions as he put on a suit, as opposed to his predecessor wearing different clothing.

That, combined with Rohl inheriting a mess, is why Rangers fans have got right behind Rohl despite three defeats in six.

That is the view of Ferguson, who exclusively told Ibrox News: “Rohl’s adhered to the traditions of Rangers Football Club. He’s embraced the club and spoken well about its history.

Right away that gets you the respect of the fans. Supporters like to see the manager suited and booted for games, which Rohl has been.

He’s also made it clear he understands the situation he’s in and that he respects Rangers. The one thing I would say about Rohl and Martin, Rohl has a likeability factor that shines through.

The fans realise that. They also understand the situation has been worsened by the previous manager, so there’s also sympathy there as well.”

Rohl has chance to build Rangers momentum

Three wins from three is a great start for Rohl domestically. Unfortunately, the Gers’ European adventure looks to be over before it has even begun.

Rohl will not wave the white flag just yet, though, with a home match against Braga to come a week on Thursday.

That is sandwiched by league games against Livingston and Falkirk on home soil, with three matches in a week to come at Ibrox.

There is no reason why Rangers cannot collect three wins from three from those, which really would provide Rohl with momentum aplenty heading into a packed December schedule.

Rohl has the backing of the fanbase, and that relationship will only now strengthen with time.
