‘Best I’ve seen at that’ – Rangers fans will love claim from Danny Rohl’s ex-ally, it’s already clear at Ibrox
Chris Powell has just made a striking claim on Danny Rohl that will certainly resonate with Rangers fans.
The former Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield boss worked as Rohl’s assistant during his time with Sheffield Wednesday, and he is as well-placed as anybody to be able to reveal the inner workings of the mind of his former colleague.
Rohl has made a bright start at Rangers since his appointment in the middle of October, and his run of three wins out of three in Premiership action has helped to restore some optimism in Govan.
The German wasn’t a popular appointment at Ibrox initially, but that situation has quickly changed, and Powell’s latest statements will be music to the ears of the supporters.

Chris Powell hails Danny Rohl’s substitutions
Powell has already praised Rohl’s motivational skills, and that is something that has quickly become apparent during his early assignments as Rangers boss.
The Gers have looked significantly fitter and more energetic in the weeks since his arrival, but that is far from the only element of the 36-year-old’s managerial skill set that has been singled out by Powell.
Rohl’s former assistant has not outlined the bravery that he possesses when it comes to making substitutions, with Rangers fans already becoming accustomed to seeing the boss bite the bullet and make early alterations in games.
“If something is not right, Danny will address it during the game or at half-time, straight away,” Powell said during an interview with the Rangers Review.
“I think he’s the best I’ve seen at that, where he will just say, ‘You know what, it’s not working, we need to change that, and we’ll do it now.’
“There’s no waiting about. He’ll do it in-game when you’ll see him sitting down, he’ll just write a few notes, tell the coaching staff, it’s done and everyone’s clear.”
Rangers’ win at Dundee prime example of Danny Rohl bravery
Rangers triumphed in impressive fashion away at Dundee in their final outing before the international break, and that turned out to be the perfect example of the bravery of their boss during games.
| Date | Competition | Opponent | Result |
| 23 October | Europa League | Brann (A) | 3-0 L |
| 26 October | Premiership | Kilmnarnock (H) | 3-1 W |
| 29 October | Premiership | Hibernian (A) | 1-0 W |
| 2 November | Premier Sports Cup | Celtic | 3-1 L (AET) |
| 6 November | Europa League | Roma (H) | 2-0 L |
| 9 November | Premiership | Dundee FC (A) | 3-0 W |
They were already 2-0 up over their hosts at the half-time interval, but that didn’t stop the German from making three changes to ensure that standards didn’t slip across his group.
The Gers faithful have quickly become accustomed to seeing early changes, as Rohl has altered the XI at half-time in five of his first six outings in charge.
His substitutions in those situations haven’t always worked, but he wastes no time in trying to spark a change when things aren’t going his way, and that is certainly commendable.
That is a stark contrast from Russell Martin’s management style, and Rangers fans will love the fact that Powell’s suggestions show that Rohl’s brave tendency is likely to continue, rather than be a flash in the pan.
