Belgian media react as Rangers star Nico Raskin ‘a little lost’ vs Kazakhstan
Rangers star Nico Raskin and Belgium had a night to forget as they drew 1-1 with Kazakhstan.
Raskin has struggled at Rangers this season, but he has gone from strength to strength with the Belgium national team.
Raskin has constantly impressed away from Rangers on the international stage, which has only increased speculation that his future lies away from Ibrox.
However, he was brought back down to earth on a sobering night for the Red Devils.

Nico Raskin earns mixed reviews in Belgium
Raskin has become a regular for his country recently, forging a starting role for one of the best countries in world football.
However, it was a chastening evening for the Gers ace, as his side were held by the minnows, who are ranked 115th in the world by FIFA.
DH Les Sports handed Raskin a six out of 10 rating, saying: “His header in the 36th minute should have been on target. He was sometimes a little lost before halftime, given the lack of balance in the team. He asserted himself in the second half and should have scored in the 89th minute.”
7Sur7 gave the former Standard Liege ace a five and a half out of 10 rating, saying: “Perhaps the Rangers midfielder’s best game with the national team, but he came within a whisker of handing the Red Devils the victory at the end of the match.”
Finally, RTBF handed him a five out of 10, saying: “In his eighth appearance for the club, the Rangers player struggled to find his rhythm alongside Onana. This didn’t prevent him from showing his determination and narrowly missing a golden opportunity with a header.
“A testament to his impressive performance, it was Onana who was substituted late in the game, not him.”
Rangers need to sort out Raskin’s future
Raskin is out of contract in the summer of 2027, meaning that he will have just one-year left on his deal in Govan next summer.
The Gers simply cannot risk losing him on a free transfer, they need to sort a new contract for the Belgian star.
- Raskin signed for the Gers from Liege for a fee of around £1.5million
- He has attracted significant interest from the Premier League and across Europe
- A potential sale could net the G51 club over £20m, which would be a significant profit
He could prove to be one of their best pieces of business in their recent history, if they can sell him on for a huge fee.
However, if they fail to tie him down, his price will continue to fall, the closer it gets to the contract expiry, and that would be a massive failure from the hierarchy in Govan.
The Light Blues have several contract issues at the moment, but Raskin’s is surely the most important of them all, given the implications if they fail to extend him.
