Rangers to sign off on new hire for Danny Rohl that’ll change everything
Danny Rohl is preparing to hire a much-needed member of the coaching team to improve Rangers’ results.
Rohl’s first game in charge of Rangers ended in a dismal 3-0 loss to Brann, and after the loss to Roma at Ibrox, he became the first permanent manager in Rangers‘ history to lose three of his opening five games.
However, Rohl has won his first three league games for the Bears, and we are already seeing improvements in the style of play that was disastrous under Russell Martin in the first two months of the season.
Rangers fans have placed their faith in Rohl, and they’ll be delighted to see that he is in the process of hiring a new set-piece coach.

Danny Rohl wants new set-piece coach at Rangers
Rangers have been susceptible to conceding from corners and free-kicks under both Rohl and Martin, and it’s certainly one of the key areas that they must improve on.
Rangers Review reported on Friday that Rohl wants to bring in a set-piece coach to help Rangers improve from those situations.
Rohl has spoken to potential candidates for the position to work alongside Sascha Lense, the performance manager, and assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach.
| Stat | Danny Rohl |
| Wins | 3 |
| Draws | 0 |
| Losses | 3 |
| Goals scored | 8 |
| Goals conceded | 9 |
According to Sofascore, Rangers have conceded four of their 10 goals from set-pieces in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Three of their eight goals conceded in the Europa League have also come from set-piece situations.
Rangers defended woefully in the 2-0 loss to Roma, and allowed an unmarked Matias Soule to open the scoring at Ibrox.
Hiring a set-piece coach would be a huge sign of progression, and it could make a huge difference to the second half of Rangers’ season.
Set-piece coaches have risen to prominence in the last few seasons, and their impact on the touchline can have as much of an effect on their team’s results as the manager does.
Why are set-piece coaches so important?
Mike Williamson was the set-piece coach under Martin, but he left the club following the former Southampton manager’s sacking in Govan.
We see the likes of Nicolas Jover and Austen McPhee, set-piece coaches at Arsenal and Aston Villa respectively, dominate the headlines in England for their animated antics on the touchline during a corner or a free-kick.
It’s a weird sight for some, but in reality, football is defined by the smallest of margins, and dead-ball situations have a huge impact on which direction a game might go.
After just six matches in charge, Rohl’s ambition to see Rangers gain incremental improvements will please fans, and the search for one of the most coveted coaching positions in world football is well underway.
And if this set-piece coach does what is expected, it really could be a game-changer for the Gers.
