Rangers financial reality emerges as Danny Rohl may have January transfer headache
Rangers may not be in a position to sign new players for Danny Rohl in the winter transfer window, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist wonders whether the Gers will have the necessary spending power to further invest in their squad in January.
Kevin Thelwell had a circa £20million net spend under Russell Martin, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be trusted with more money at the Light Blues.
Rohl must’ve certainly been handed a reality check at Ibrox against Roma, with the gulf in quality between the Glaswegian outfit and the Serie A giants evident in the 2-0 Europa League loss.

Rangers may not have money to spend for Danny Rohl in January
Jackson doesn’t think the Gers have enough funds available for another recruitment drive in the coming weeks.
The journalist believes the Light Blues may have to sell players at Ibrox to reinvest in their squad.
Rohl will certainly be handed a massive headache as the only really valuable asset who could potentially bring in a lot of money for the Glaswegian outfit is Nicolas Raskin, but he’s too important to the team.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 13 November, Jackson said: “I don’t think they’ve got a lot [of money to spend]. I’m not sure if they’re going to be in a position to bring in reinforcements in January. I think they’ll have to sell.”
Raskin was being linked with an exit from Ibrox in the summer, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see teams lining up for him as he’s gone on to establish himself as a key player for Belgium.
The Gers may also be tempted to cash in on the midfielder if the right offer arrives, as his current contract expires in the summer of 2027.
Ibrox hierarchy can cut their losses with winter transfer
Ibrox News understands Youssef Chermiti is attracting interest from Braga, among other clubs in Europe, as he struggles to make a case for himself in G51.
Rangers signed the Portugal Under-21 international for £8m in the summer from Everton, and for such a significant fee, fans had higher expectations from him.
| Players | Transfer fee |
| Youssef Chermiti | £8million |
| Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
Instead, the 21-year-old has looked nowhere near worth what the Gers paid for him, already resulting in a strained relationship with the supporters.
If the Light Blues have the opportunity to cut their losses and sell Chermiti, they should think about it in January, as Rohl undoubtedly needs a quality number nine at his disposal.
