Kevin Thelwell has ‘clever’ Danilo plan for new striker transfer at Rangers

Rangers could potentially opt to send Danilo out on loan in the winter transfer window, Scott McDermott says.

The Daily Record journalist doesn’t think the Gers will get rid of Bojan Miovski or Youssef Chermiti in January, having only signed them in the summer.

Danilo has had somewhat of a resurgence under Danny Rohl, but it doesn’t seem like the German manager trusts him to play the full 90 minutes, which may be down to his injury record at the Light Blues.

With Miovski and Chermiti flopping at Ibrox so far, the addition of a new quality number nine should be a priority for the former Sheffield Wednesday, but that could possibly require a sacrifice.

Danilo on significant pay at Rangers

McDermott feels the Gers could potentially free up some big wages by accepting an offer for Danilo.

The journalist feels the Light Blues will now have to be “clever” after Kevin Thelwell signed 12 players at Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises record an approximate net spend of £20million for Russell Martin, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them change their approach and be wiser with their money at the turn of the year.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 13 November, McDermott said: “If they were looking to bring a striker in, they’re not going to get rid of Miovski or Chermiti. Could they maybe get Danilo out on loan, who’s on a big wage and try and get that out of the door? I know that he’s been playing a few games again. They’ll have to be a bit clever.”

Miovski doesn’t seem to suit the style of play at Ibrox, leaving the North Macedonia international struggling for minutes since his move from Girona.

As for Chermiti, the noise around his transfer fee must surely weigh heavily on his shoulders, and he undoubtedly has a mountain to climb to win faith among supporters.

Kevin Thelwell has unpopular Findlay Curtis transfer option

Findlay Curtis has been unlucky at Ibrox this season, with the Glaswegian outfit’s academy graduate not getting a lot of opportunities despite putting in some decent performances.

The Scotland Under-21 international hasn’t played for Rangers in their last four domestic matches, with Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama being preferred up front by Rohl.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see interested teams pay at least a couple of million to sign the 19-year-old, something Thelwell may consider, as he’s an academy player.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) is something the Glaswegian outfit must keep an eye on, and there have been several examples of teams around Europe using their homegrown players to balance the books.
