Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Rangers rumours after what Gary Neville said

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he had no contact with Rangers over the manager role.

Solskjaer was linked with Rangers as the Light Blues continued a flawed search for a new head coach after Russell Martin was sacked.

The former striker was let go by Besiktas earlier in the season, but Solskjaer had the potential to turn around Rangers this campaign.

The Ibrox club eventually took a different direction, and Rangers appointed Danny Rohl, who has had a mixed start.

Solskjaer has now responded to links with the job in Govan after Gary Neville asked about his future in management.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had no contact with Rangers

Rangers fans didn’t want Solskjaer and were fuming at the idea of potentially bringing in the Norwegian earlier in the campaign.

The G51 outfit appears to have made a better decision by bringing in Rohl, as he continues to build a positive relationship with supporters.

The German celebrated with fans after chants of his name continued throughout the clash as the Light Blues secured a 3-0 win over Dundee.

Many think that things could have been different for the Gers if they had brought in Solskjaer after his failed spell in Turkyie.

The former Manchester United man has now confirmed that a deal was never even on the table to complete a move to Govan.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Neville said: “Where are you at in your mindset? There were rumours that you’d had a conversation with Rangers.

Solskjaer was quick to respond, “No, I didn’t speak to them. Me personally, I didn’t.

Rangers dodged bullet with Solskjaer snub

The ex-striker may have been successful throughout his tenure at Old Trafford, but has never replicated that form in a top league anywhere else.

With Cardiff City and Besiktas, Solskjaer failed to make a positive impression, and it feels unlikely that he would have done so with the Gers.

Getting in Rohl feels like a shrewd appointment, even after a very patchy start to life at Ibrox, across all competitions.

The German has every chance of success in G51 and is already taking positive steps towards doing exactly that.

Avoiding an approach for Solskjaer feels like a wise move, but we will have to see what Rohl can do throughout his reign.
