Michael Beale’s Rangers understudy joins Rob Edwards’ coaching team at Wolves
Former Rangers coach Harry Watling has followed Rob Edwards to Wolves following his appointment at the Old Gold club.
Edwards made the controversial decision to leave Middlesbrough, who are fighting for promotion in the Championship, to join the Old Gold side, who look like relegation certainties in the Premier League.
The appointment became official on Wednesday, with Watling also following the former Luton Town manager to the Black County club to become Edwards’ assistant manager.
However, Watling also has experience north of the border at Rangers and was part of Michael Beale’s unsuccessful stint as Ibrox manager.

Harry Watling leaves Middlesbrough after mere months in Teesside
Watling only joined Middlesbrough in June following Edwards’ appointment at the Riverside Stadium.
This followed an unsuccessful attempt at forming a management career, with the 35-year-old only lasting months at Ebbsfleet United in 2024.
Previously, Watling had been a key coach under Beale as he attempted to form his own management career.
The duo were together at QPR before they both moved to Rangers in 2022.
Watling worked as a set-piece specialist at Rangers, while also scouting out potential transfer targets.

Following Beale’s sacking in 2023, Watling followed the manager out of Ibrox, with the pair yet to reunite at a club since.
Now, the coach will be looking to shine at his new club with Edwards and pull off the near-impossible task of leading Wolves to Premier League survival this season.

What has Michael Beale said about Watling?
In the past, Beale has been full of praise for Watling and his coaching ability as the duo attempted to take QPR and Rangers to new heights.
Talking to QPR back on 25 July 2022, the former Rangers boss said: “I’m delighted that Harry has joined the club. He is a talented coach who has extensive experience for his age.
“He has worked at all levels of player development at Chelsea, West Ham and Millwall. Most recently he has been a head coach himself in America.
- Watling has previously managed at Hartford Athletic and Ebbsfleet United
- The coach has since abandoned his management career and returned to coaching
- He is now become Wolves’ assistant manager on Wednesday
“His role will be to work alongside myself, Neil, Damian and Chris with the senior first-team squad and also to be a set-play specialist.
“The importance of set-plays cannot be understated and I believe that having a dedicated coach in this area will be hugely beneficial moving forwards.
“Harry is a person I have known for a long time and I feel that he complements our existing first-team staff very well. He will be an asset to the club.”
