Michael Stewart spots Rangers issue for Danny Rohl already – ‘Serious’

Danny Rohl has been told that he still has serious work to do at Rangers, despite continuing their stellar Scottish Premiership form.

Rangers beat Dundee 3-0 on Sunday to make it three consecutive league wins under the German, cutting the deficit to Hearts at the top of the table.

Djedi Gassama scored the pick of the bunch at Dens Park, with Nicolas Raskin and Mikey Moore kicking things off in the opening exchanges for a comfortable afternoon.

It came only days after Rangers were dominated by Roma in the Europa League, and Michael Stewart used that to deliver a warning to Rohl.

Danny Rohl must avoid critical Rangers error

Rohl was very animated in his celebrations after the win, with consistency desperately needed across all competitions after the international break.

Stewart insisted that Rangers must not continue to be heavily beaten in Europe heading towards Christmas, as it could affect their form domestically too.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on 9 November, the outspoken pundit was happy for Rohl, who will be determined to take things even further at Ibrox.

“The issues for Rangers are that they need to, in Europe, make sure they’re not on the end of serious drubbings,” Stewart said.

“You don’t want that to be affecting the domestic form.

“At the moment, three wins in three for Danny Rohl, but there is a slight concern that if that continues, it might have an impact on their domestic form.”

Rangers return with a bang

Of course, taking on Roma and Dundee is going to be completely different.

Having said that, in recent years, Rangers have won games against the likes of the Italian giants in Europe, only to return to domestic action and lose to those lower down in the Scottish Premiership.

It goes without saying that Rangers fans demand their team is competitive in every competition, but sitting bottom of the Europa League wouldn’t be as bad if they were top of the Scottish Premiership.

That hasn’t happened, mainly thanks to Russell Martin.

Rohl simply has to find that balance that has been missing since Steven Gerrard was in charge.

Rangers return from the last international break with games against Livingston, Braga and Falkirk, all at Ibrox, with nine points desperately needed to kick on again.
