Michael Stewart makes ‘almighty’ new Rangers prediction after what he saw on BBC

Rangers have been told to ignore talk of the Scottish Premiership title for now.

Danny Rohl has started on fire domestically, winning his three league games in charge so far after the sacking of Russell Martin.

Rangers beat Dundee 3-0 on Sunday to continue the streak, with Hearts dropping points again at Tynecastle to cut the gap by a further two.

The Bears are now 12 points behind the top spot, but with a game in hand, that could cut it to single digits after the final international break of the year.

Despite that, Michael Stewart has warned caution for now.

Rangers back in Scottish Premiership contention

Rohl has gathered the support of the Rangers fans quickly on home soil, and if he can take that into Europe, the Bears could be flying.

Stewart believes that despite a positive start, it will be difficult for Rangers to catch Derek McInnes and Hearts, despite them starting to falter.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene after the highlights, the outspoken pundit predicted that it wouldn’t happen this season, but did take notice of how things have improved.

“I think it’s an almighty task for them to overturn that deficit,” Stewart said.

“One thing is for certain, they’re in a far greater state of mind than just a few short weeks ago when Russell Martin was getting ushered out of Falkirk Stadium.

There’s no doubt there’s been an improvement, the manager has got a far greater clarity in terms of what he wants to do, he’s having to deal with a squad that has been put together that is lacking in balance.

Are they going to be able to win the title? I don’t think so. Are things better? Clearly.”

Danny Rohl could be Rangers hero within months

We saw this last year with Aberdeen, who started the Scottish Premiership in sensational form.

Once the pressure started to rise and games arrived thick and fast going into Christmas, they crumbled, and Hearts will certainly be aware of that.

Rangers could be nine points behind once their game-in-hand is played, with two fixtures against both Hearts and Celtic left for them to overtake if in that position to do so.

Where the Light Blues have crumbled in recent years is the games against the so-called lesser sides, though, so it is great to see Rohl bring dominance to those fixtures.

Nobody is focusing on the Scottish Premiership title for now, but the longer this winning run goes on, the quicker it could become a reality.
