‘He’s upset’ – Sky Sports pundit slams ‘lazy’ Youssef Chermiti over Rangers retaliation at Dundee

Youssef Chermiti was branded “lazy” after his rash response to a Dundee opponent in Rangers’ win.

Danny Rohl‘s side made it three Scottish Premiership wins on the bounce as Rangers ran out 3-0 winners at Dens Park on Sunday afternoon, thanks to goals from Nico Raskin, Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama.

After Rangers were easily downed by Roma in midweek it was the necessary result in response, but after Chermiti was axed from Rohl’s starting XI he still came in for criticism off the bench in the second half.

The former Everton striker has had a tough time since arriving at Ibrox, with his £8 million signing so far only producing one goal from 13 appearances.

Chermiti headlined a transfer window that has since put Kevin Thelwell in the firing line of major criticism from Rangers fans and pundits.

Neil McCann blasts Youssef Chermiti challenge

In the 56th minute against Dundee the under-fire forward was dispossessed by Tony Yogane down the right and responded by sliding in with a badly-mistimed challenge as the Dundee man tried to escape down the flank.

Reacting live on the Sky Sports match coverage former Ibrox midfielder and coach Neil McCann was very critical, suggesting the Portuguese lashed out after losing the ball initially.

He said: “It’s actually just a little bit lazy from Chermiti. I think he’s upset that he gets robbed in the first instance.

“He doesn’t need to do it, Yogane’s just running right into James Tavernier. He’s lucky to escape a yellow card probably.”

Rangers miss Cyriel Dessers

Chermiti was guilty of bad misses as Rangers lost to Celtic last weekend, and was again undercooked in defeat to Roma in midweek, yet being dropped from the starting line up didn’t have the desired effect for Rohl.

According to Sofascore stats Chermiti had just 20 touches in his half on the pitch, and one saved shot, having replaced Bojan Miovski at half time.

That Miovski had zero attempts in the first 45 minutes himself underlines how blunt the Light Blues have been rendered up front by the previous transfer window.

Cyriel Dessers was a lightning rod for criticism during his time at Ibrox thanks to maddening misses and regular offsides, but the Nigerian international had an impact and found the net as well.

With his departure to Panathinaikos completed in the summer Gers fans wouldn’t have thought the side would see a significant regression, but right now that is apparently the case.
