Rangers and Celtic to surprise Barry Ferguson in new January transfer claim

Barry Ferguson expects Rangers and Celtic to invest in their squad in the winter transfer window.

The Gers icon has predicted a busy period in Glasgow for the Old Firm rivals as they look to turn their seasons around.

Danny Rohl must’ve realised the lack of quality at Ibrox against Roma, with the Serie A giants miles ahead of the Light Blues in the 2-0 Europa League win on 6 November.

Celtic have been dealing with their own problems at Parkhead, with Martin O’Neill replacing Brendan Rodgers on an interim basis after the former Liverpool manager’s resignation in G40.

Rangers and Celtic to surely sign reinforcements in winter transfer window

Ferguson would be astonished to see the two Old Firm clubs opt against strengthening in the upcoming transfer window.

The Gers’ former interim manager would be “surprised” if the Glaswegian outfits don’t go into the market and sign at least a few players.

It would also make sense for the Light Blues to get rid of some of their unwanted stars to make way for better players at Ibrox in January.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 7 November, Ferguson said: “I’d imagine both Rangers and Celtic will be pretty busy in January. I’d be surprised if they’re not.”

Derek McInnes has taken everyone by surprise at Hearts, with the Jambos leading the William Hill Premiership, sitting 14 points ahead of the Gers.

The gap in quality against Roma was evident, and Kevin Thelwell needs to address it if he manages to keep his job in G51.

Danny Rohl to demand two new players at Ibrox in January

Rohl has been unable to rely on Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, and the addition of a new number nine feels obvious at the Light Blues.

Rangers have certainly failed to replace Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane, raising questions about Thelwell’s abilities.

Another position that undoubtedly needs some new blood is the defence, with centre-back particularly an area of concern as the likes of Nasser Djiga and John Souttar continue their struggles.

The Glaswegian outfit have conceded 35 goals in 23 matches this season, and that’s something that definitely needs to be addressed.
