Ferguson calls for Rangers figure to quit Ibrox already – ‘The fans just won’t accept him’
Kevin Thelwell has been told to leave Rangers already as there is simply no way he will be able to win over the fanbase.
Thelwell has been behind a number of questionable Rangers hires since arriving at Ibrox from Everton in the summer.
Rangers fans made their feelings clear to Thelwell and Patrick Stewart during Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Roma in the Europa League.
With that defeat, Rangers are staring at an embarrassing exit from the Europa League, while they are 14 points adrift of leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
There is no denying Thelwell has overseen a messy start to his tenure as sporting director, and Derek Ferguson insists there is no way he can turn things around.
Derek Ferguson wants to see back of Kevin Thelwell at Rangers
Rangers were once again poor in their defeat to Roma, and it is difficult to see how Danny Rohl will be able to get any sort of consistency out of this group.
That is down to terrible transfer business in the summer, overseen by Thelwell, plus the wrong appointment of Russell Martin and botched search for his replacement.
Thelwell has hired some people he knows in various roles, such as son Robbie, but Ibrox icon Ferguson does not believe the appointments will do him any good.
“The fans just won’t accept him, regardless,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News. “The one thing you need, not just in football but life, you need to trust people.
“And the fans don’t trust him. They don’t like how he’s going about his business at all. The only positive for the fans at this point would be for Thelwell to leave the club.”
Thelwell was only announced as Rangers‘ new sporting director on April 23, with the former Everton figure then arriving at Ibrox upon the expiry of his contract on Merseyside.
Ibrox stewards remove Thelwell and Patrick Stewart banners
Stewards removed banners against Thelwell and Stewart that were draped over the Ibrox stands in Thursday’s loss to Roma.

That was greeted by widespread boos, with Rangers fans making their thoughts clear as to just how badly the club is being run right now.
Rangers fans have confronted Thelwell and Stewart at an airport in the past, but it seems the message is still not clear.
The pair are clearly hoping for some sort of miracle turnaround, though this season is unfortunately already a write-off.
Indeed, with more than six months of the season to play, the Scottish Cup is Rangers’ only real hope of success this campaign.
Until there is change at the top, it is unlikely Rangers’ fortunes on the field will change.
