Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers put to shame at Rangers by Tony Bloom and Hearts
Tony Bloom has given Hearts a new lifeline while Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have failed to deliver at Rangers.
Derek McInnes’ team won at Ibrox for the first time in 11 years as they beat the Gers 2-0 on 13 September in the William Hill Premiership, and now sit at the top of the table with a 14-point gap over them.
Kevin Thelwell could’ve signed Lawrence Shankland as a free agent, but instead opted to go for the likes of Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti to replace Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane.
The 30-year-old Scotland international is now the leading goalscorer in the league with seven goals in 11 matches, while the Glaswegian outfit struggle to find the back of the net.

Jamestown Analytics blows Rangers recruitment out of the water
Bloom purchased a 25 per cent stake in Hearts in the summer and gave them exclusive rights to Jamestown Analytics, which has helped them unearth some real gems.
Brighton have found exceptional talent over the years in the likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Joao Pedro, Ben White and Alexis Mac Allister, and have sold them for hefty profits.
Now, the Jambos have used the same tools to sign Claudio Braga from Aalesund, who play in the second tier of Norwegian football, and he is the second top goalscorer in the league behind Shankland.
Winger Alexandros Kyziridis, who was signed from MFK Zemplin Michalovce in Slovakia, has also thrived in Scotland.
Harry Milne and Oisin McEntee have also proven to be decent buys from Scottish football and down south, respectively.
On the other hand, Thelwell’s transfer strategy at Ibrox has failed, with arguably none of the 12 players he brought to the Glaswegian outfit in the summer living up to expectations.
Danny Rohl to demand Kevin Thelwell change at Ibrox
Thelwell has taken control of recruitment at Ibrox since arriving in the summer, but Cavenagh and the 49ers should look to make a change.
The sporting director must surely have played a significant role in Rangers signing nine players from down south in the previous transfer window.
| Players | Transfer fee |
| Youssef Chermiti | £8million |
| Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
While Paraag Marathe must have certainly brought a data-driven and analytical approach to the Light Blues, something they’ve used at Leeds United, the American owners have been put to shame by Bloom.
It doesn’t look like Thelwell is going anywhere, though, and Rohl should demand that the former Everton chief doesn’t have the final say on recruitment at Ibrox.
