Where Youssef Chermiti ranks among worst-ever Rangers signings as exit news emerges
Youssef Chermiti is up there with some of the worst signings that Rangers have made in their long 153-year history.
Rangers lost 2-0 to Roma on Thursday in the Europa League, and Ibrox has simply seen enough of Chermiti.
Alan Brazil has claimed that Chermiti will be joining Braga on loan in January, as even Danny Rohl seems like he can’t get the best out of the striker.
Coming to the Bears for £8million just a few months ago, Ibrox News takes a look at the top three worst signings in Gers history, which of course includes Chermiti.

3. Joey Barton
Coming in at number three, Joey Barton is one of the worst pound-for-pound signings that Rangers ever made – and he was a free transfer.
Barton joined the Gers for free in the summer of 2016 on a two-year deal after leaving Burnley.
- Barton made just eight appearances for Rangers
- He featured in a 5-1 loss to Celtic in 2016
- Barton made six starts for Gers with two appearances coming from the bench
The controversial midfielder had a well-documented fallout with then-manager Mark Warburton and was later handed a three-week ban after a training incident with teammate Andy Halliday.
Barton was then released from his contract in November the same year, and cost Rangers between £16,00 and £26,000 per week on wages, according to BBC Sport, which potentially cost the Gers millions after his contract termination.
2. Filip Sebo
Slovakian striker Filip Sebo joined Rangers in 2006 in a deal worth £1.8m from MSK Zilina.
Sebo was brought to the club to score goals; however, he did everything but that.
| Matches | Goals |
| 24 | 2 |
The striker’s main reasoning for struggling was his inability to adapt to the physicality of the Scottish Premiership, but it didn’t help that he just wasn’t very good in front of goal either.
Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title in the 2007-08 season, but Sebo had minimal effect on the feat.

Rangers had to cut their losses when they eventually sold him for £1m to French side Valenciennes in 2008.
1. Youssef Chermiti
Finally at number one, comes Chermiti, who has been nothing but atrocious since making the permanent move from Everton.
The Toffees won’t be able to believe their luck in recouping the figure for Chermiti, as Kevin Thelwell has not only failed at signing the striker with the Blues, but now also with Rangers.
Chermiti has come under fire multiple times this season, and there are little to no signs that he is going to improve.

The list may as well be one of poor strikers that Rangers have signed, as the Bears are desperately struggling since the departure of Hamza Igamane.
Chermiti’s exit is nearing, and Rangers fans will be more than happy to see the back of him.
