Tom English dumbfounded by £30m reveal at Rangers live on BBC – ‘Extraordinary’
It is no secret that Rangers spent a lot of money in the summer.
After the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh sealed their takeover at Ibrox, Rangers hired Russell Martin and finished with a net spend of around £20million.
Kevin Thelwell was responsible for that after being appointed, with Rangers fans already calling for his sacking following a disastrous start to the season.
Martin has already been replaced by Danny Rohl, with the German winning and losing two of his opening four games in charge.
Rangers lost 2-0 to AS Roma in the Europa League on Thursday, on an evening which really highlighted a gulf in class that hasn’t been seen in many years.

Rangers still need to spend more after £30m reveal
Tom English was left shocked by the quality on show at Ibrox, admitting that more is still somehow needed in the January transfer window.
Speaking live on BBC Sportsound after the defeat against Roma on 6 November, the journalist couldn’t believe the product he was watching from so much money spent.
“I think they need a lot of new players, and it’s going to cost fortunes,” English said.
“This is a team that is put together of a net spend, everyone keeps saying, £20m, minimum £30m spent on this team.

“It’s extraordinary, it’s almost a feat that they’ve spent so much money to get so little, I don’t know how they’ve done it.”

Where have Rangers spent?
Some of the fees spent looked ridiculous at the time, but after seeing half of the new signings play, it’s somehow even worse.
Youssef Chermiti costing up to £10m, is the cherry on the cake, with £4m spent on Bojan Miovski and £3m on Emmanuel Fernandez, who doesn’t even play.
Thelwell looks to be sticking around, but if he wastes money again in January, it would be a huge shock to see him still at Ibrox next summer, with the fans already wanting him gone.
Something isn’t right at Rangers, and it’s clear that it will take a lot more than just throwing more money at it to make things work in the right direction again.
