Kevin Thelwell must be sacked now as Rangers role detrimental to Danny Rohl

Rangers should cut ties with Kevin Thelwell as things continue to get worse after losing to Roma in the Europa League on Thursday.

Ibrox hosted Gian Piero Gasperini’s team on 6 November, with Matis Soule and Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring in the Gers’ 2-0 loss.

Danny Rohl faces the embarrassing prospect of finishing last in the Europa League, with the Light Blues currently on zero points with a minus-seven goal difference.

The Glaswegian outfit’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the European competition look slim as they face the likes of Braga and Porto in their remaining four matches.

Youssef Chermiti starts at Rangers hint at Kevin Thelwell hand in picking starting XI

Thelwell may be playing a significant role in picking the Gers’ starting lineups under Rohl, Gordon Dalziel says.

The Scottish pundit notes that the former Everton striker’s minutes have increased since the German manager replaced Russell Martin at Ibrox, suggesting the sporting director may be forcing his inclusion up front.

Thelwell seems to have a lot of faith in Chermiti, with the Toffees’ former chief opting to reunite with the Portugal Under-21 international after spending £8million at the Light Blues.

Speaking on Open Goal on 6 November, Dalziel said: “Rohl comes in, and the first game Chermiti plays, and he’s starting to play most of the games. Under Martin, he hardly gets a game. I think Thelwell is a big part of picking the team.”

With the 21-year-old centre-forward continuing to struggle at the Glaswegian outfit, once again scruffing a few opportunities against Roma, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss hasn’t been helped.

The Portuguese youngster had failed to score or assist during his two-year spell at Goodison Park, yet Thelwell decided to sign him after letting Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane leave, which is arguably a sackable offence.

Danny Rohl should have two demands for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises

Rohl should ask for a new number nine at Ibrox in January, with Bojan Miovski and Chermiti failing to be reliable outlets.

Rangers fans are glad to see Danilo returning to his best in G51, but his consistent fitness issues make him a liability.

It can be argued that apart from Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama, none of the 12 new players Thelwell brought to Ibrox have made a big enough impact so far.

With the defence also all over the place, a new centre-back should be another priority for the Glaswegian outfit in the upcoming transfer window.
