Emmanuel Fernandez gets big chance in two Danny Rohl changes – Rangers predicted XI vs Dundee

Emmanuel Fernandez could be set for his big opportunity in a Rangers shirt against Dundee on Sunday.

The centre-back has hardly featured since he completed his £3.5million switch to Ibrox from Peterborough United in the summer, and he was quickly written off by Russell Martin.

Fernandez made a key error for Rangers in their defeat to St Mirren back in August, and he has played just one minute of competitive football since that moment.

However, that could be about to change this weekend, with Rohl potentially set to hand the 23-year-old the chance to impress for his new club in two changes from the midweek defeat to Roma.

John Souttar axed after error vs Roma

John Souttar cost Rangers in their defeat to Roma on Thursday night, as a lapse in concentration allowed Artem Dovbyk to get goal-side of him in the build-up to the visitors’ all-important second goal.

It was a tired-looking moment from the defender, who has played every single minute in the Premiership so far this term, and has been an ever-present under Rohl so far.

Souttar needs a rest, and with that in mind, the boss will likely look to Fernandez to step in, as he takes a major gamble on the youngster.

Dundee are currently sat second-bottom of the table, meaning the German may not get a better chance than this to get a proper look at the young stopper.

Elsewhere in the side, Derek Cornelius is likely to come back in from the off, as Rohl strives to get James Tavernier back into his natural position in the right wing-back role.

Youssef Chermiti has come under fire again after the defeat to Roma, and he is likely to drop to the bench to make way for the inform Danilo to lead the line.

Only Dundee have created fewer big chances than Rangers this season

Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee in their last meeting at Ibrox back in August, when a stoppage-time penalty from Tavernier was the only thing standing in the way of an embarrassing defeat.

The latest instalment of that clash is unlikely to be an enthralling encounter on Sunday, as the Premiership’s two least creative teams go head to head.

The teams that have created the fewest chances in the Premiership in 2025-26.

Rangers have fashioned a measly 15 big chances from their opening 10 games of league action, while their hosts this weekend are the only team with a lower total, as they have managed just 10.

With that in mind, Rohl’s men will have to be at their best in front of goal if they are to leave Dundee with three points to show for their efforts, as there is unlikely to be an abundance of opportunities in the contest.

That is yet another reason why Chermiti cannot start, as there is no place for his wastefulness in what will likely be a game of extremely fine margins.
