Danny Rohl must drop scandalous Rangers star after what he did vs Roma, it was men against boys

Rangers suffered yet more European misery on Thursday night as they were beaten 2-0 by Roma at Ibrox.

The Gers were always likely to face an uphill task against the Italian giants, but any hopes of an upset were quickly put to bed through first-half goals from Matias Soule and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Rangers had the ingredients for another memorable night at Ibrox prior to kick-off, but in reality, they were completely outclassed by a far superior opponent.

They now sit bottom of the entire Europa League after their opening four league phase matches, and Thursday’s display should have told Danny Rohl everything that he needs to know about this star.

Connor Barron cannot start for Rangers vs Dundee

Djeidi Gassama turned in a bright display for Rangers, but in truth, quality performances were few and far between for the hosts on the night.

Rohl’s men failed to get a foothold in the game from the very beginning, and they simply couldn’t live with the quality offered by the Italian capital club.

There were frustrating performances all over the pitch for the Gers, but none more so than Connor Barron, who was schooled by the visitors’ midfield.

The 23-year-old recorded the lowest number of touches of any outfield player to play the full 90 minutes, something which is simply scandalous for a centre-midfield player, regardless of the opposition.

Barron usually prides himself on his work without the ball and his energy to cover the ground in midfield; however, he was even found wanting in this department on Thursday.

He won just 25 per cent of his duels throughout proceedings and managed just two tackles and one interception against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The youngster has become a reliable performer for Rangers domestically, but the Roma defeat showcased that he is still a long way from making the next step as a player, as he was made to look like a boy playing against men at times.

The Govan outfit return to Premiership action against Dundee on Sunday, and Barron simply cannot make the starting XI.

Lyall Cameron can count himself unlucky at Danny Rohl snub

Lyall Cameron showed plenty of promise for Rangers in the early stages of the campaign, but he is yet to be given the opportunity to impress by Rohl.

The German has handed the 23-year-old just nine minutes across the five games of his tenure so far, and he confirmed ahead of the Roma clash that Cameron isn’t carrying an injury.

The former Dundee man can certainly count himself unlucky to have not been handed a bit more of an involvement by the new boss, and it must have been especially frustrating for him to have not been introduced from the bench on Thursday, given Barron’s performance.

Cameron will surely have an eye on lining up from the start against his former club on Sunday, but he must surely be questioning what he has done to have had such few opportunities of late.
