Rangers vs Roma preview: Team news, lineups, prediction

Rangers will look to get back to winning ways against Roma on Thursday evening.

Rangers lost 3-1 after extra time against Celtic in the League Cup semi-final last time out, and Danny Rohl needs his charges to bounce back.

The Ibrox outfit are bottom of the Europa League standings after losing their first three matches in the competition.

They cannot afford to lose against the Italian outfit on 6 November, as they will have a huge struggle to qualify for the knockout stages.

Preview

Rohl’s tenure started in the worst possible fashion as Rangers fell to a 3-0 defeat to SK Brann in his first game in charge.

They had returned with two victories from two, with a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at home, then a 1-0 away win against Hibernian.

However, they were brought back down to earth by the Hoops, who brushed them aside to reach the first final of the season.

Rohl will be keen to turn things around in Europe and bring some positivity to Govan, and end the negativity that has surrounded the club this season.

Meanwhile, Roma sit fourth in Serie A, having won seven of their 10 matches so far, but their record in Europe is not as good.

They have only won one of their European games this campaign, with a 2-1 win over Nice in their first league phase match, before losses to Lille and Viktoria Plzen.

Team news

Rangers are expected to have everyone available, apart from long-term absentees Dujon Sterling and Rabbi Matondo.

That duo are yet to play a single match this season, and the clash in Govan, should come too soon for either to return.

However, the Gers should have Connor Barron back after he missed the Old Firm clash through suspension.

Roma are expected to be without Paulo Dybala, Evan Ferguson and Angelino for the contest.

Predicted lineups

Rangers: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Souttar, Cornelius, Meghoma; Raskin, Diomande; Gassama, Moore, Danilo

Roma: Svilar; Celik, Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka, Franca; Cristante, Kone, El Aynaoui; Soule, Dovbyk

Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Roma

Roma would normally be a very difficult opposition for the Gers.

However, they have not been their typical dangerous selves in Europe this season, and the hosts can take advantage.

Rohl has got his side playing a much more solid style than Russell Martin had, and with a rapturous crowd behind them, they may well get their European campaign back on track.
