Rangers vs Roma Europa League result predicted by supercomputer

Rangers continue their Europa League campaign against Roma on Thursday night.

The Gers are in desperate need of a positive result to help keep their European hopes alive, as they currently sit bottom of the entire Europa League table after the opening three games of the league phase.

Rangers were beaten 3-0 by Brann in their last continental outing, but Danny Rohl has had plenty of time to work on his team since that defeat in his opening game in charge.

Thursday’s clash promises to be a special night under the lights at Ibrox, and the hosts will be hoping to get their first three points of their campaign.

Roma heavy favourites for Europa League clash at Ibrox

Rangers slipped to defeat against Celtic in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup on Sunday, and they will be gunning to put that right at the first attempt on Thursday.

However, there can be no doubting the size of the task that is facing them when Gian Piero Gasperini’s side travel to Ibrox.

The Italians were beaten on penalties in the final of the Europa League in 2022-23, and they also reached the semi-finals in the following campaign, when they fell to Bayer Leverkusen.

They are perennially competing in the latter stages of European competitions, and have also made a bright start in Serie A this term, as they currently sit fourth and just one point from the top of the table.

Rangers appear to have an uphill task ahead of them if they are to earn a positive result in the upcoming clash, and that is reflected by the prediction from Opta’s supercomputer ahead of the game.

Rohl’s men are being given just a 17.9 per cent chance of claiming three points, while the visitors are valued at a huge 62.1 per cent to win.

Rangers hopeful of better result than last meeting with Italian team

Rangers haven’t qualified for the Champions League group stage or league phase since the 2022-23 campaign, and that coincides with their last competitive game against Italian opposition.

The Gers were drawn in the same group as Napoli on that occasion, but were soundly beaten 3-0 both home and away by the Serie A side.

They will be desperate to ensure that they don’t fall to a similar defeat against Roma in midweek, in what will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

It is arguably the most daunting fixture in their Europa League schedule, but a win would be huge for Rangers if they can do enough to get one.
