Willie Collum to hand out multiple apologies after Celtic vs Rangers drama

Rangers and Celtic were involved in another dramatic Old Firm showdown in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

James Tavernier’s penalty cancelled out Johnny Kenny’s opener at Hampden Park, but Celtic prevailed 3-1 over Rangers after extra time.

That only tells half the story, though, as Thelo Aasgaard was shown a straight red card, while Anthony Ralston was fortunate to avoid a second yellow for a penalty he conceded.

Meanwhile, James McFadden was left shocked on punditry duty as he felt Auston Trusty should have been red carded for Celtic after catching the head of Jack Butland.

Willie Collum has plenty on his plate after Celtic and Rangers clash

All the above could lead to some falling out in the days after the explosive affair, which was a far cry from the goalless Old Firm draw in August.

Nick Walsh was the man who oversaw things on the field, but it is fair to say he did not cover himself in glory as numerous questionable calls were made.

The penalty incident in particular generated plenty of debate. While some argued it should not have been awarded, plenty thought it should have.

What was more contentious, though, was the fact Ralston was not issued a second yellow card for the handball.

Willie Collum, the head of referee operations at the SFA, will likely be asked about various decisions by both clubs.

Taking to X moments after that dramatic penalty decision, TV presenter Darrell Currie said: “How many apologies will Willie be handing out?

“It’s guesswork. Zero consistency in decisions. I’ve said it for a long time.

Rangers fans make Danny Rohl stance clear at Hampden Park

Losing to Celtic is always extremely tough for Rangers to take, especially in a knockout competition such as this.

However, Rangers supporters chanted Rohl’s name loudly as the game edged towards its conclusion, pleased with the fight in which their side showed while a man down.

Rohl now has two defeats and two wins to his name since taking over from Russell Martin, who set the bar very low when it comes to what is expected of a new Rangers manager.

Rangers fans won’t exactly be ecstatic with what they have seen from Rohl so far, but there have been plenty of positive signs and the German will slowly put his own spin on things.

The good news for Rohl is that Rangers are back in action in just four days’ time with a European clash against Roma.
