James McFadden ‘amazed’ at Celtic vs Rangers incident – ‘It’s crazy’
Danny Rohl tasted defeat in his first Old Firm as Rangers manager as Celtic prevailed in Sunday’s thrilling Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
Celtic were 3-1 winners at Hampden Park thanks to extra-time goals from Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand.
That came after James Tavernier’s penalty cancelled out Johnny Kenny’s goal in normal time in what was an action-packed contest.
Rangers had Thelo Aasgaard sent off in the first half and, while they put up a brave fight to take the game all the way, they ultimately did not have enough to pick up the win.
Rohl made a big Rangers selection call for the clash, with Celtic boss Martin O’Neill spotted going ballistic at one certain incident.
However, it was opposite number Rohl who was left fuming not long after at a decision that did not go in his side’s favour.

Auston Trusty lucky to avoid red card at Hampden Park
There was a big moment in the first half when Celtic’s Auston Trusty left a foot in and caught the head of Jack Butland.
Nick Walsh was well positioned and wasted no time in awarding a yellow card, which VAR saw no reason to flag for a second look.
In the view of James McFadden live on BBC Radio Scotland, it was a nailed on red card for Trusty for serious foul play.
“I’m amazed Nick Walsh hasn’t sent Auston Trusty off,” he said. “Jack Butland clearly has the ball and he swings a boot at his face.
“It’s a crazy moment and he is so lucky to still be on the pitch.“
That view was the same view universally held by pundits covering the game, with Trusty considered massively fortunate not to be dismissed.
Celtic 3-1 Rangers stats in full
Rangers were seeking revenge over Celtic, but this latest meeting between the hates rivals ended in yet more pain.
Rohl will be massively encouraged by the fighting spirit shown by his side in the second half of normal time.
| Celtic | Rangers | |
| 3 | Goals | 1 |
| 22 | Shots | 12 |
| 3 | Shots on target | 7 |
| 51% | Possession | 49% |
Rangers did well to take the game to extra time, but they came unstuck in the additional period as Celtic’s one-man advantage told.
Ultimately, Rohl and Rangers’ players are not here to be praised for showing fighting spirit. This was a terrible result and one the Gers quickly need to bounce back from.
